If your range is for a sedan, better go for a sedan indeed that is safe.
In terms of safety and road grip, Civic > 2014 Corolla.
Comfort, 2014 Corolla > Civic.
Parts won't be an issue for both. BUT meters will be reversed for most of these cars as these are old, can be other issues too so do inspect first.

Vitz/Aqua/Prius are the most dheet cars out there and never break down. High quality. Better than PKDMs of the same price range, e.g. Vitz is 10x better than Cultus AGS. Just stay away from "R" grade cars which are accidented - it shows on Auction sheet.
