Injection pump calibration and genuine parts sourcing is relatively trickier and more difficult as compared to petrol versions. This engine is not being offered in new models. That is my personal experience.

Toyota Purposely discontinued Corolla diesel sedan, so to discourage Corolla as TAXI sedan., instead of Executive Sedan.

Launched across India in 2014 Corolla 1.4 D4D was a HIT, premium vehicle then for the same reason of TAXI Sedan Toyota India stopped producing Corolla Diesel in 2020.
In the used car market across India Corolla Diesel is still most sought after sedan for its engine reliability and ruggedness.

yea but the question still remains the same - that if 2.0d is a reliable car or not. Because like the owner who initiated this thread conveyed a lot of problems . i have heard from many people that it creates issue in starting up especially in winters and its fuel pump is very difficult to adjust. So in best case we find a mechanic who helps resolving this issue - what are the other issues? People always say buy a petrol instead of diesel and the only argument is of noise - what if someone is okay with noise then

The diesel workshop has to remove pump send it to denso pakistan via courier. they will provide an assessment quote for parts and recalibration to oem settings. The calibrated pump is wire sealed afterwards, and dispatched back. The mechanic has to only reinstall pump over engine. connect fuel lines. sort out glow plugs & electrical connections all rest of work can be done by a seasoned diesel motor workshop @syncview in Lhr @dani_kk in Isb & @rajaatta in Rwp.

if all other mechanicals are in order the vehicle will be good for next 150,000+ kms

As mentioned above, I have bought 450,000 KM driven Corolla , I believe a petrol version or any vehicle with this mileage will still be giving similar issues, reason for starting this thread was to get guidance on it's maintainance as last thread here was a decade old.
With 70% long drive,5 occupants avg, boot full of welding material and 10 K driven in 2.5 months, I'm pretty satisfied with occasional 18-20 km/litre average, sound is pretty much improved with airbox sealing and pump nozzle work. Petrol version can't achieve it.
But again any city deweller will face challenge to adopt to diesel.

Fuel consumption seems to be very sensitive to throttle, using slightest of throttle on longe route with speed around 80 km/h gives best average, any extra push takes average down to even 12 km/ litre. Also engine is weak with huge blowby, maybe thats the reason it gets inefficient on throttle application emitting black smoke.

the cold start problems lie with people using 20w50, no thermostat, no injector or pump service and a whole other gremlins. I have yet to see a properly maintained 2.0d that hasn't been abused to hell.
