Corolla 88 Engine Swap, Need Guidance & Suggestions

I was checking 5AFE specs and there I saw 5AFHE, which is also called an EFI-S engine. I think these came in AE91 or AE92 SE Limited G.

What I only know about this engine is that it produces more power than 5AFE.
So what about this engine, tell me about it? Is it easily available like 5AFE?

They Are Rare...Came In Toyota SERA's And Some Limited Models ..Hard To Find...!

Rare Find ..So As Spares....! Get Something For Which You Atleast Find Parts

Yes you are right, its not that simple as we think.

So it means that Z-gens are not durable, tough, hard-wearing, long-lasting, well made, etc as old iron blocks?
What are the pros & cons of iron engine blocks and aluminum engine blocks?

Iron block engine are tougher than aluminum in some cases iron block engine sound better (better exhaust note) if we compare A to ZZ series ZZ seires take advantage of being smoother ZZ series engine being lighter (lighter engine at front can give you better handling)

I wouldnt put it that way. The Z gens are very well made and are smoother than the older gen and are robust as well if taken proper care of. The block itself may not be able to take as much abuse as the iron ones but that said, it wouldnt be too far behind the iron blocks and wouldnt give you any issues if you take care of it properly. The 2nz in my Charade is around 300k km driven and Alhamdulillah, it doesnt have any issues at all. No noises out of the ordinary, compression is fine and still packs a punch while giving me quite good mileage Alhamdulillah. Throughout its life, it has been run on liqui moly and a couple of times Ceratec has also been used.

About the 5AFE EFI-S, like @SER_GTR said, its a rare engine and its best not to go for it even if you find one as parts will be an issue later down the road.

Iron Blocks Are Better And Robust In Terms Of Block Life & Connecting Parts ...Z-Gen Are Also Good But Cannot Sustain As Much Beating As Older Iron Blocks...

Overheating And Stuff Is Where They Are Most Tested And Comes Into Play...!

Jumping Into Swaps Are Easy As You Will Pay And Get Engine On Place..Mechanic Will Take No Time Ripping everything Apart And Removing Old Motor....They Will Make Brackets Or Get Foundations And Make It SIT Inside Bay.....Then Things From Now On Gets Tricky ....!

I am comfortable in doing mechanical/electrical auto work but first I have to learn it.

You are right, I also observed this (better exhaust note).

Lighter engine at front is more close to 50 50 weight distribution as compared to heavier engine, that's why the handling is better. Is it correct?

I wouldnt put it that way. The Z gens are very well made and are smoother than the older gen and are robust as well if taken proper care of. Well having 300k, your engine still in a very good condition. It all depends upon how you drive and timely maintenance of your engine.

then first learn it on an original setup - meaning do atleast some big jobs on mechanical/electrical work, this way you can measure n judge what someone else is doing with your car.

slapping new corolla fwd engines into old corolla bays is not very hard, infact its very easy - you can do it while half asleep too. I would suggest you put the engine on a pallet and then sort out the wiring - each and every last wire. That way all you need to do is to pick up the engine, mount it up in the engine bay and connect the wiring.

Well having 300k, your engine still in a very good condition. It all depends upon how you drive and timely maintenance of your engine.

Well the engine was in our 9th gen corolla and we bought the car brand new so it has been driven in our hands all its life. I swapped the corolla with a 1nz so had the 2nz with ne which is perfectly healthy ALHAMDULILLAH. And yes, it comes down to how well you look after it. I've seen rental cars run over 600k on the same engines with very low quality maintenance and still, they do run. Not as smoothly and troublefree as a properly looked after engine would though.

I'm not sure what advantages the new orientation of the intake / exhaust are. It may be designed that way for ease of access of the intake manifold / throttle body etc. Not sure though.

About the mileage, the 1nz-fe is alot better in mileage on the highway. With an average speed of 100-110km/h my father's corolla gave 20.5km/liter without ac on the motorway. With ac and speeds of upto 150 (average about 120), the last I calculated it, I got about 16km/l.

I'm not sure about Lahore because I've never had any experience there. In pindi, I would recommend Yousaf, the same mechanic that I have but, you would also need to keep your input to the highest as he is always open to opinion but he doesnt cut corners. Lahore is closer to Faisalabad, so I would also recommend you to get input from Lahore members.
