There are a few pieces on a car that require careful attention, e.g. the wiper tray area on these will rust out due to clogging of the drain channels which will cause rigidity issues down the road, similarly where the A pillar foot joins the floorboards, they also rust out. These cars had very poor rust protection from the factory but can be redone with correct parts grafting.
anyway, its a very simply built car with no fuss but at this age will require almost every part to be inspected and tested atleast, e.g. the rear track arms that locate the diff have rubber bushings which will have perished. (these are almost never touched in a young cars life)
The toyota K engine is very oldschool and agricultural, its not even a cross flow head, its that oldschool! (imagine 1950s design) - its very easy to repair too - a saturday morning with freinds was all that I needed to replace a head gasket on one of these. By lunch same friend left driving in the same car. Caveat Empor because ustaad jee would have messed it up a million times before by now.
anyway, you will need to get its wiring sorted out, specially if its missing the plastic inner fender splash shields, the harness goes from there into the cab, The main fuse box distributes through that too. And if those shields are missing, its better to just remove that whole harness from there and inside cab (dash removal required), depin each wire one by one and repin with new wire and end spades and them loom it back like factory.
