the mark X also has seat occupation sensors along with sensors on the belt clasps and 2 stage airbags (meaning there are 2 squibs to fire 2 detonators in each bag, only one is fired on low impact and both fire on large impact). Most probably the car you saw had some sort of jugaarbazi done on the seat sensors or the seatbelts.
I have seen electricians put in resistors in the clasp wiring to kill the beep. In a toyota this arms the SRS unit ready for deployment. There is one circuit for both the chime and SRS unlike in nearly all european cars in which there are 2 separate circuits.
Either it was rigged or the SRS unit was faulty.
