Depends upon person to person, normally people tend to sell their cars once it hits this mileage and go for upgrade. I know few people who have lots of money but somehow love to keep their old modeled cars out of love affair. My uncle owned an hospitals and had lot of money but he would simply not sell his 92 corolla. Finally once he sold it in 2011 out of pressure from family he said that this may be an old modeled car but as reliable and good as brand new and serves all my purpose. So I think, if you intend to move on with it for some time then better buy new genuine boots from Honda Motors and get it replaced. After all, having reliable machine gives you a piece of mind on long trips. Sorry, I am sort of maintenance freak, love to take my cars on Adventures and never adopt the mentality if I have to sell then all the investment would go to vain.

Yes. people do sell their cars after they hit this much mileage but i believe if u keep a car nicely maintained, u can extend its life a lot. people think a car becomes useless after it hits 150k kms. i believe otherwise. n yes , i love the car too! 2 times in the last few years, decision was being taken by family to sell it n get a new city but i resisted. the reason being, i dont consider a new city an upgrade worth the price. i mean, i would have to spend atleast 6.5-7 lakh rs more n get a car that has a smaller cabin, same overall dimensions, almost same comfort level. only abs, power engine n few nice features but they arent worth spending that much money. yes it would be a new car too but my idsi is doing just fine too. so yes, i ll be keeping the car for as long as i can. n i invest in my car always knowing that i ll be the one to derive the benefit of it, because its not gonna be sold soon. the only reason im not touching the boots is that when a local mechanic opens a part of a car, specially as delicate as this, it rarely ends up as gud as OEM stuff. n given that mine is still not creating any problems. i would like to drive it as it is for a while. eventually, when it does die off, i ll get OEM boots for sure, not chinese ones...

thats chump change, I can show you W123 mercedes in merrakesh as taxis that are at 800,000 kilometers and still ticking like a watch. Upkeep will cause the car to go for another 800,000.

I met a guy here in US who has a 1978 300SD W116 mercedes, That car is pushing 1.3 million original miles (2.08 million kms). He pushes it everyday to over 100 mph. The engine/ auto trans etc are original - rebuilt once in between - however the pump is getting tired at this age. The doors etc all original and still have the dead sounding thud when he closes them.

The car is maintained like benz recommends - and he himself is a benz mechanic.

If you choose to jugaarbaazi on your car with cheap chinese fake parts dont expect it to be reliable. Thats me experience.

I think people in USA try to retire their cars much earlier because of very expensive labor involved. Roads are good so cars easily do more mileage before breaking down. But, here in Pakistan 99 % of cars bought never came off the Road. Those who have money prefer to retire their cars, second and third owners want to drive it for free till finally it breaks down and they irritate everyone around with either lousy driving or once entire traffic is blocked because of a broken car. I feel those are few lucky cars who have drivers like you mentioned. These machines can easily last for ages if taken care of on time.

roads in the USA suck really bad - they really shake the car to bits and yes the labor is very expensive but the check and balance on them is pretty strict e.g. a mechanic is liable for answering if he works on brakes and the car is involved in a crash.

If you see the way people treat cars here you will be amazed they actually work at all, by law they have to keep em in good condition because if your car breaks down you are forced by police to tow it away immediately - tow truck charges 200 to 400 dollars easily, If you block traffic because your POS car broke down you get a nice ticket too. Also for about 300 dollars, so imagine you just screwed yourself of about 500 dollars in one shot.

Its the danda that keeps the cars going and the same danda forces people to buy new ones.

My car has 265k kms and 7 yrs of age on it. it has been to very rough n tough roads but the CV joints havent ever caused any issue. no clicking sound while turning, nothing! even the boots are perfectly fine. people tell me to get them changed as they cannot last so long but im not sure. OEM boot must be of excellent quality for it to last so long. otherwise, rubber cracks after a few years. or may be the grease is keeping the rubber soft n healthy.

Update!

322,000 kms mileage and 9 years old now, still no cracks/damage on boots and no sound from CVJ whatsoever!! I guess I am lucky!

100 percent agreed!! I ve seen toyota camrys with 700k kms mileage here in Dubai and those cars are doing fine! The taxi companies maintain those cars from authorized dealers so i believe they are well taken care of. Preventive maintainence is the best thing to be done on a car. My own car, a honda city with a tiny 1.3l engine is doing just fine after 320k kms of mileage. Sure there have been some issues but it never once left me stranded on the road. The reason? I used to keep checking out condition of everything like suspension parts and engine oil level etc etc. Countless times i changed parts which had JUST started showing signs of their life n if i hadn't changed them, i would be standing on road abusing the car just a few weeks down the road.

you are quite right, I would like to add a point here.

if you install pikachu, honqci, fuji, falana, yokozuna etc branded parts in your japanese car to maintain it with poor workmanship because the parts are "japani" - your car will become a POS very quick.
