D.I.Y: Miscellaneous Upgrades (Camry ACV40)

Got hands on factory Sat Nav from ACV40 series Hybrid (2010~11). Installation was not complex but took me some time to figure out wiring for this unit.

Also got the original chrome plated rear boot garnish with built-in camera and boot release button..

Since this unit is quite different with more options, I needed to hack the complete wiring harness from the wrecker...

the rear will give an idea how different it is from rest of the factory audio units..

There were a couple of things I had to take care of...

1 - GPS antenna is different from a normal standard.

2 - Camera is 6V instead of 12V like the rest of cars.

3 - Camera harness is not RCA based and needs different solution.

4 - Unlike other headunits, you need to have a trigger signal from reverse to view reverse camera signal.

5 - GPS will update your location but turn by turn navigation and re-routing works only if the speed sensor signal wire is connected.

There are other things I need to sort out too, like AUX cable, MIC and take info from ECU for maintenance menu. Once done, I'll be updating this thread.

I don't know if any of you will need this info but I'm going to gather all info regarding installation here anyway.

The speed sensor wire (Purple) has to be removed from the previous pin (circled RED) and plugged in at this position.

After removing the left foot-well cover, you'll find find a red wire (circled). Splice it with a meter long wire (max) and run it through to connect it to the trigger on headunit

I'm not yet sure about the blue wire, the rest are marked in the pic.

The camera wires however goes like this:

L2R:
BLACK - Ground
RED - Video +ive
WHITE - Video -ive
BLACK - Power

To run wire from boot to head-unit, I opted for Cat6 shielded twisted pair.

I bundled the Black (Gr) & White (-ive) together and used the Green/Green-White as ground. Orange/Orange-White as Camera Power (6V) and Brown/White-Brown as Video signal +ive.

Apologies for the shoddy cabling, the pix were taken during testing and later soldered and taped cleanly.

The boot garnish fits perfectly except that I had to drill out almost 18mm hole for the grommet and cables.

and then cable-tied with other cables.. There is a White and Green cable with the camera, which is connected to boot release button, I'll be connecting that too but until I figure out how the security connection for it.

Oh, and I ran the cables behind glovebox...
