i meant they dont carry full insurance. some dont even have 3rd party insurance. this concept doesnt really exist in Pakistan

Some JDMs have side view mirrors thats have slight tilts on the outer edges to facilitate observation of the blind spots.

How helpful is the merc/volvo blindspot assist maybe if you get an aftermarket kit and install it perhaps it might be of some use.

I m not sure about after market but then one which comes with the cars are very very good. But these systems just alert the driver. The driver need to act on the alerts. Here you go

My wife's Nissan Quest have Blind Spot Warning System and it do works flawlessly.

Nice info and its good that this topic is discussed ... blindspots need clear attention of driver to avoid them ... here in saudia the biggest problem is high speed, tail gating, and one of the highest risk of fatal crashes is that they depart lane without giving turn signal plus on very high speed...

Simple rule that they tell in Dubai when you apply for a license.

Center-Side-Shoulder-Center and you are good to change the lane.

1. Look in the Center(Rear viewing) mirror.
2. Look in the Side Mirror
3. Look over your shoulder through the back window.
4. Look in the Center(Rear viewing) mirror again.

The new Accord has got a good feature to deal with the Blind Spots. It has dedicated camera for this purpose.

Not only in Dubai .. In Saudia Traffic police also provide instructions while you are applying for license, even they check usage of side mirrors and center mirror in final driving test....

active blind spot monitoring system alerts driver to take necessary action.. the system will be of no use if the system alert and the driver don't act accordingly.

In Pakistan we are now getting rear window music band thing, fake turbo whistlers and such other useless things. Why cant we have a good after market blind spot detection system to install in our cars. Coz frankly expecting from Indus, suzuki or atlas honda that they will introduce this system in pakistan is just like expecting a donkey to cook food.

I have noticed that most Mehrans drive with either 1 or both side mirrors closed. Extremely hard to get way past them. Just gotta keep honking:)
