was there any protection mat placed upon it ?
this is very common problem happening in vehicles with some kind of padding / mats placed over the dashboards. this has been discussed over this forum use the search option.
repair will be having a visible patch, better leave it as it is. to prevent further expansion use flexible sun shade instead of any mats / padding over the dashboard.
