I can answer of this million $ question - Why they don't do it is the million dollar question ?
Here i am going to answer in detail with complete scenario.
Without alloy rims, self start and adding other extra features bike price tag is Rs.1,12,000 Yeh price he bohat se logun ki range se bahir ha, after adding those extra features also imagine the price tag of the bike. New price will be insane. Let me give you an example.
Let’s suppose imagine (farzi) prices of self-start unit, alloy rims and adding more Acceleration + pickup mechanical changes.
Self-start unit = Rs.6000
Alloy Rims = Rs.20,000
Adding more Acceleration + pickup mechanical changes = Rs.10,000
Atlas Honda Margin (per unit for these changes only) = 15,000
6000 + 20,000 + 10,000 + 15,000 + 1,12,000 (2012 Deluxe) = Rs.1,63,000
A person who can't afford 1,12,000 deluxe, now how he will pay 1,63,000 insane price for a 125cc bike ???? Should not he go for old used car something like very old model of mehran???
Let’s have a conversation between CEO Atlas Honda, Deluxe Product Manager, few Honda dealers and a customer regarding adding more features in 2012 Deluxe:
Customer enter in Honda showroom to buy a 2012 deluxe
Customer asking dealer: Aoa, yeh new 2012 deluxe ki kia price ha ?
Honda dealer: abi lein ge to ap k lie sirf 1,12,000
Customer: bike to achi ha par is me koi or feature nahi ha indian bikes ki tarha..ap log honda factory ko batien people need more stuff e.g.
Honda dealer: thek ha bhai next time jub factory ka chakar lage ga to Product Manager ko batien ge magar aap yaad rakhien Honda se barh k koi nahi Mein tay honda ee lay saan!
Honda Dealers in a meeting with Deluxe Manager:
Dealer 1: sir jee kuch karien logun ki bohat demand aa rahi k deluxe mein or features add kiye jaien.
Dealer 2: han jee log ab mazeed new features ki demand karte han jese indian hero honda ki bikes k features han.
Dealer 4: deluxe ki sale achi ja rahi ha or features add karne se sale or barhe gi.
Dealer 3: my vote goes with these 3 dealers.
Deluxe Project Manager : okay, me yeh baat CEO Atlas Honda k sath meeting me karon ga final decision to unhi ka hoga.
Deluxe Project Manager in a meeting with Atlas Honda CEO & Other Think Tanks Of Honda (let’s give a name ALI to Deluxe Project Manager)
CEO: to Mr. Ali (Deluxe Project Manager ) show me the overall sale reports of Deluxe and brief me about it.
Mr. Ali: sir, yeh rahi sale reports ki file and is dafa sale kafi achi ja rahi ha as compare to 2011.
CEO: while reading sale report...ummm sale seems better than 2011 reports but not that much impressive, these doesn't meet our 2012 target.
Mr. Ali: sir, the sale will be better for sure but i got a new situation here.
CEO: and what is that situation?
Mr. Ali: many of our dealers are asking to add more new features in Deluxe, people are asking for more and more sir, some thing new they are tired from old features.
Think Tank 1: this sale report is not meeting our current target, Mr. Ali current price is 1,12,000 even then our deluxe sale is very slow, after making a bike like Hero Honda the price tag will go further higher
something like 1,63,000 to 2,00,000 or may be go above then 2lacs and we even have to add Atlas Honda margin in this price. Peoples are already not showing their interest in 1,12,000 bike then they will
don't buy a 2lac bike. No way! Never.. impossible it’s impossible, our Government is already not decreasing taxes + duties on bike parts e.g.
Mr.Ali: but sir....
Think Tank 2: hold on Mr. Ali! More prices means less sale or almost no sale, less price means more sale. So leave those extra features we can't bring a big change here because the result will be in poor sales of Atlas Honda and we can't afford poor sales. Poor sales means less margin or no margin, then slowly slowly we will be out of market and once we get out of a market other local Bike manufacturers
or outsiders like Honda Japan/Yamaha Japan will jump directly in to Pakistani market and that will be the result of dying of Atlas Honda Company, Mr.Ali this isn’t going to happen, no way, never!
Mr.Ali: Sigh! And keep silent.
Think Tank 3: I agree with our two think tanks of Atlas Honda. We will not bring new features or any other bike we have to go with deluxe only.
Mr. Ali: So sir (to CEO) what is your decision?
CEO: Yeah i agree with our think tanks except you Mr.Ali. They can think better then you for our company, we will not take any risk and Atlas Honda will stay in market for decades! Ask our dealers for a new meeting we have to discuss new marketing gimmicks/techniques. That’s all for now! Meeting is finish...
In simple words if Atlas Honda make a bike like Hero Honda Glamour which price is 58,170 in India. Imagine its price in Pakistan and that too made by Atlas Honda with a great margin. :)
