the wire your new buyer adjusted to loose (looser = soft behaviour, tighter = hard behaviour) will cause sloppy shifts now (which will wear the clutches) factory setting on that wire/cable is a specific setting which is easy to to (its the same for almost all toyotas with that cable whether front or rear wheel drive)
the real problem is the accumulator and fill channels to the starting clutch - almost all toyotas with such gearboxes have this problem when they age. They will keep on running for 200K like this, There is a remedy made by american transmission parts manufacturers which is perfect, but its not available in Pakistan as its not jenyan japani toita because toyota dont care about this problem as it was not occuring under first owner warranty period globally.
The shifts on these toyota autos should be crisp and positive, if they are not felt at all while driving then clutch pack and band wear is occuring at a rapid rate. In simple terms it should shift like a mercedes benz or GM transmission, feel every nudge. If it feels like a CVT then its wrong and very short lived - which all people in Pakistan think is how an auto is supposed to shift.
The other problem of that bump is worn driveshaft couplings and worn differential and subframe bushings (same problem as older mercedes benz whose design was copied when toyota made this car) - Loosening the cable will mask this issue too. Owner think its amazing that they cannot feel the shift maybe because they never drove one brand new. Just like some people dont like the solid bump shifts they experience with mercedes benz automatics at full power. Ye kesi luxury car hai - fail hai bhai?
