both - the reason I emphasize it on diesels is that they dont actually want to warm up themselves, they are very cold running engines.

i have a corolla 2.0D saloon 2009 model. and as per the discussion going on over here i should not sell it or change to petrol as i was thinking about shifting to altis soon. but please advise me. it is 66k driven and i have taken good care of it always. although i am not as trained as other experts over here. still i always took it for regular inspections to toyota authorised dealers. and till now it has not given any problem like black smoke or anything. the mechanic adjusted the nozzeles at 40K. i am a hard footed driver and always push the car to 4000 rpm still it has always given me fuel efficiency of 12KMPL. never gone below this with ac on. i always change gears between 3000-4000. please advise should i keep it or change to altis. thanks

Only advice here would be to adjust your driving style to a diesel car.

Oh and you should turbocharge it if possible. A turbodiesel is a must. Turbos and diesel go hand in hand.

I doubt about conversion of ur 2C to a turbo one. Turbo charged 2C is a different variant.
And if u change the gears earlier in a diesel car, then u can get good fuel economy.

wow thats great fuel economy my charade swaped with cultus 3cyl engine gives me 10km per L of petrol and my daewoo 1.5L gives almost 10 to 13 km/l its an efi but your merc is excellent on fuel, im thinking to put back turbo diesel engine in my but to maintain those engines are big pain.
both are automatic people say that automatic transmissions consume more fuel is that rite?
bro which car is best in your view for home office use ,low on consumption of diesel and maintenence and low in price too.
after all i only find charade turbo diesel only fiting that criteria.
one of my friend have toyota carina 60s model with vertical straight lights and its swaped with diesel i guess 2c engine and the car is standing there for years now. what you say if i purchase that frm him and tune to optimum fuel efficiency can i do that?

if you or your mechanic have no clue how to tune/adjust the diesel engine then its hopeless for any economy, If you choose the daihatsu CL turbo engine then you need to be well versed and ready to work on it yourself because I can gurantee that your average mechanic will royally screw it up. But once its set, its nirvana in fuel economy.

I used to drive a VW diesel in Pakistan that was cheaper than walking - it used to return me 20-22 km/lit and it was a 4 cyl 1.6L

bro every time you say this it amazes me more a 1.6l engine on 20-22km average on karachi roads full of traffic i get almost this much average on a 1.0L 3cyl on cng and less on 1.5l 4cyl on cng but petrol avg of 1.5 daewoo is better as its an injector based engine.
and on the roads of islamabad.
i like that royally screw thing. they say about that engine is a khurrak engine and even say me that i am saved frm that after swaping this engine and its automatic trans amazes them more, once some one asked me that is factory auto.i said no man.
bro i have been working with this car since i was 18 and now im 23 it been 5 years im with it. if i didnt work myself on this old car the me and my family would be doing face palm. these mechanics know nothing but the thing they know at max is ripping you off.
well i dont know about diesel engines coz i never had one experience with it, as the man is under continous learning and i like to do it , some people call me a mechanic too jealous people.
if i go back 5 years i know nothing about this car but now i know every nuts and bolts on this car. i learned even driving on it.
bro as the diesel engine is invented by a german rudolf diesel i guess so the diesel engine cars of germany would be best as tech wise and effiicincy too vw is one of it and merc is another.

I also drive a petrol engine mercedes E320 - its the M112 V6 twin spark 18V engine, I get 11 km/lit from it too. It required a bit of cleaning and proper analysis and replacement of the AFM to get it correctly running.

anyway, for adjusting the timing belt, its best to follow factory procedure for it. Which engine are you looking to do?

oh wow mercs are good on fuel too i never knew that i always thought that these cars are heavy on fuel but now im thinking otherwise , even i also drove a daihatsu mira 660 auto it gives 12-13 kmpl and that big engine car is giving aprox the same avg. this confuses me alot.
well bro i almost every night check my car its oil/water/filter ,thats all in carby engine before sleep to determine any fault and to sure that if it is good to go for another day, and this thing helped me this much that its an old car but Alhamdulilah never faced any difficulty on the way.
timing belt of cutus 3cyl carby engine and daewoo 4cyl MPFI engine 1.5l, all i know about timing belt is that it is adjusted while the first piston is at end of its compression stroke, dont know about cam that where it will be?
and how to know that if engine is running out of timing as frm these mechanics one can expect any thing.
one thing more that how to correctly measure fuel consumption as in my charade fuel gauge does not work and i recently changes feul jet in carburetor.
bro now im thinking to put a manual trans with cultus engine and put out this big auto trans, as the trans look bigger and heavyier than this 3cyl engine.
and yes how to get optimum fuel efficiency in these cars ?

If I boot the e320 hard it will run like a scalded cat, which I dont do often as I would get into trouble with the police. So I just drive it gingerly ranging in between 60 mph and 85 mph - 100 - 145 km/h. Its got a 5 spd autobox. my diesel one has a 4 spd auto with no overdrive.

Small kei cars cannot promise good economy because they are geared too low, its a given because the engine has no power at all - its just too small to move that car, worse if its a small SUV.

for adjusting the timing belt, the camshaft is also marked in both your cars, ensure that the belt is taught at the front while installing and let the spring tensioner (suzuki) take up the belt slack and tighten down. Daewoo requires you to rotate the water pump with a large pliers and lock it in position. It should be loose enough that you can rotate the belt sideways about halfway but not more. Rotate engine 2 revolutions of the crank and check timing again.

black smoke is too much fuel in too little air, this can be caused by a number of factors, including timing, health, air induction, etc, when an engine is manufactured it pretty smoke free, if you have mechanics telling you that they will smoke no matter what, you need to find well qualified mechanics who actually know what they are talking about.

How can we check AIS (Air Industion System) for blockage OR does it ever gets blocked. I have seen in my car that the line coming from exhaust (EGR one) was badly choked and I guessed that engine is not getting proper air (or bad air). I had cleaned it but could not get any difference in power or mileage. Could you please elaborate how to clean it and AIS. Also tell us symptoms that occur when Air Industion System is out of order. I have a 1994 Toyota Tamaraw, an Asian Utility Vehicle powered by a 2C 2.0L Diesel engine, I was told that the fuel consumption would be an average 14Km to a Liter and 18km:1L at best...

Sadly I am only getting 7km:1L on city and 11km:1L on freeways.

I know for a fact that my vehicle has an aerodynamic of a brick LOL, but 1L:7km is just unacceptable..

What should I look into.

Yes Zulfiqar, also ZACE in India, Taiwan and China I think.

Mine is a 2 Liter diesel 2C engine, normally aspirated, G52 tranny and a 4.1:1 open-diff. 14" 65AR tires (stock is 70/75ar)

I haven't done injector cleaning, but regularly change oil at 5000km, or 6-8 months after.

I see slight puff of smoke on hard acceleration @ 3700-4500rpm

I often drive with 2-4 passengers daily to and from school.

Addendum:

-Valve clearances has not been checked yet.
-Timing is good, starts in a click, a little valve chatter durting cold start about 1-2 secs
-Washable free-flow airfilter
