the car should not "accelerate" if cruise control is ON.
of course if ur trying to catch the tail with rear wheels still under power due to cruise control, it should be harder, braking or traction control should take care of that thou.

on loose snow, mud, sand, a non ABS car will Dig and stop faster than ABS equipped car

So maintaining constant speed by yourself would also cause the car to aquaplane?

As I even mentioned in my last post, it shouldn't really matter whether you're using cruise control or not, if you hit a considerably wet patch with a certain amount of speed, your car will hydroplane... consistent/constant speed doesn't have much to do with that...

well..i kind of still doubt this phenomenon
have been using cruise control on highways for more than two years by now
driven in fog,heavy rain and perfect weather
on lhr-isb motorway ...i travel almost every second week..never had any problem
sometimes limit speed at 130 ...in other cases;set cruise control at 130 or 160
never had any kind of problem whatsoever ..though i am a careful driver
use it in manual car .....and the vehicle does not accelerate so harsh that its gona hydroplane btw i dont think that this would be the case with new cars

the video of merc i guess....well look at its speed ...and there certainly will be other issues
bt driving on highway and in city..with speeds not exceeding 150-160 ..it surely wouldnt happen ..

considering its from texas - its 100% crap already - now if someone wants to get greasy on the tech details I can chime in.

in short - no matter how much torque your engine has it will never jettison off the road, and on aquaplaning the cruise will not be doing anything as its just measuring speed off of the tranny - which is constant, natural reaction of applying brakes would immediately shutdown the cruise control.

You have incorrect information. ABS is an extremely helpful technology when driving in snow or for that matter any road condition where tyre traction is less than ideal. I would have crashed multiple times by now if it wasn't for ABS.

Then why do a lot of people in Canada and USA remove ABS due to snow?

Thing is, ABS alone isn't good in snow or mud. If you drive a merc, well it has a very ******* good computer controlled braking system with ABS. so there you go. Almost same is the case with RR, BMW... getting down to our civics, don't know abt the new one, but the 2005 model, has ABS only, no electronic brake distribution system, these kind of systems suck in snow and mud and the same types of terrain.

the original argument by ahmedbila was on soft snow, sand and mud, where the car can DIG into ground, hence reducing the distance required to stop. which is true

the vdo is about driving on Frozen Ice, ofcourse abs and traction controls are desirable features in such conditions.

dude, watch the video closely, the very first test they run is on ABS..
and as for the question as to why people take off the ABS from their vehicles in the US, so I havent ever heard of anything of the sort and neither do I know of it as to why they may do so, even if they really do.. someone from the US might be able to provide any further details..

That is what I actually said, if you have a car which has ABS only, which doesn't help at all with braking in snow, you'd have to remove or turn it off. So the car would dig and stop.

Any one praising ABS or going to go against my argument, Vitz is a very popular car here, isn't it? Talking specially about the 2005+ models, at about 80km/h, when you press pedal REALLY QUICKLY and to the end, all you can see and hear is the ABS pump gadar gadar gadar gadar and nothing known as 'braking' happens. It does but not like when the car could've been stopped without ABS. Try that again without ABS and you'll see the difference. Yes I'm saying that Vitz ABS is USELESS. Yes it doesn't let the wheels lock, but when you press the brake pedal you expect the car to stop, don't you?

Exactly. It usually happens on wet patches even if the speed is around 70-80km/h. Tyres do play important role in it. Condition of tyres is direclty proportional to hydroplanning. Weak tyres will more likely to create hydroplane effect than that of good tyres

dude in normal conditions ABS rules, when you are driving in the snow, just take the fuse of ABS out and it will be as any other normal brake-locked car

Adding to what I posted: What I mean is, that ABS only isn't as useful, but along with techs like EBD and other things, it sure is a good thing.
