the one you're selling for 1.15crore probably costed you a max of around 85-90lacs or so, cant possibly be more, maybe less. because you were selling an AX-G for 98lacs (after your own profits offcourse) when the yen was 1.27 . now yen is 1.03 or so.

in the thread you mentioned the duty as 40lacs something. dividing it by 1.27 gives app 3.1million yen. now deducting the 15% tax, we get = 3.1 / 1.15 = 2.7 or so. since the car is 5yr old, the depreciation turns out to be app. 50% or so. which means the retail price of that car when brand new was app 5.5million yen or so (and if you remember, I posted the price list from toyota.jp which mentions the retail of the AX-G at exactly that amount). now today that 5.5 million yen turns out to be app 55lacs. and for that much money, in japan you can get a brand new AX-G.

So here you go brothers, this is how profitable this import business actually is.
And the reason why these cars still manage to sell at such huge prices is because of the election season. even though the election is over, now they are buying for victory celebrations. they are happy and want to reward themselves.
