VIP movements happen across the world with National Flag Carriers. - It was Winter 1997 all 282 boarded on British Airways Airbus flight from LHR (London Heathrow) to ISB (Islamabad, PK) a tug hooked to nose wheel when a black suit shaved head walked into the air bridge onto the Senior Purser 1st class and to flight deck - 2 minutes later captain announced some technical problem causing delay and passengers to remain seated 25 minutes passed announcement was again made for possible departure in next 10 minutes...... and few minutes later Jack Straw The British Home Secretary walked into the 1st class cabin and settled with 2 other black suits fore & aft of his seat in 1st class. Before he could ease to fasten seat belt aircraft was on push back.

there is no comparison of PIA & EMIRATES, employee strength of PIA per aircraft is 55 time higher then the emirates. in past 11 years i have encountered only 3 delays in departure. and for PIA .. I have not set foot on in last 8 years. I prefer C 130 extended flights over PIA

Thanks for that info ,25 minutes is nothing. I know a recent PIA flight which was delayed by five hours due to VIP movement. In Pakistan it's not just the head of state even other individuals at higher management levels are known to indulge in intentionally delaying flights. Also, reserved seats are also taken from genuine passengers (who might have possibly purchased tickets well in advance) when so called important personalities are traveling - I see this as something very unfair honestly speaking.

I was reading in a recent in the news that in another country, legal action has been taken against an individual who had intentionally been causing delays in flights.

just privatize the damn airline and cut loose the massive load of pensioners along with some of the crew and you will see it back on the top again.

no where in world The FLAG Carrier airline is a private airline. SWISS Air was bankrupt few years back at melt down, Operations was shut down and swiss govt was not in position to bail out the airline 8 air crafts in different corners of world was grounded. 3 weeks later consortium of KLM+Lufthansa+SAS showed interest to buy out. SWISS Govt declined 4 PVT banks of Switzerland stepped forward negotiated the shareholding and revived the national airline as 'SWISS' with new logo. fees were paid to respective airports for release of air crafts and brought back to revive the fleet from 18 to now 27 planes flying to 73 destinations.

unless the employee to aircraft ratio is drastically reduced from 400 to double digits PIA will not come out of coma.

^^ a similar situation plagues Air India as well. The airline may have the latest jets and amazing terminals/lounges, but gross mismanagement will ensure that India's flag carrier never bounces back to what it used to be in its hey day.

I was reading that Emirates started its operation in 1985 taken 2 aircrafts from PIA, even they returned back aircrafts after 2 years on 1987.Right now they have 177 aircrafts in operation and more then 200 in order. Emirates is largest operator of A380 and Boeing 777.PIA started its operation in 1946 as Orient Airways and right now PIA has only 39 Aircrafts in operation and just 9 in order. PIA has mostly very old aircraft in operation.It is really very pity that where are we standing now, the worst condition is not even in PIA, the condition of whole pakistan is worst.Allah pak reham kare hum sab pe or Pakistan pe.

when you employ 3 people on a vacancy of 1 things surely will get out of order.. thanks to the revenge of democracy..
while coming out of our best airports, one an impression of being in a political rally rather than the airport due to massive posters and wall chalking in airport due to kind courtesy of political unions..
imagine what will be our first impression on the foreigners, or overseas Pakistanis..

Same with Kingfisher Airlines in India. Kuala Lumpur Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) is managed by 18~25 year old boys/girls. Same is in Hong Kong. Just few old men overlooking the staff.

PIA management has lack of will and the staff is old. I really hate it.

Normally, in airhostess, call centre staff etc the experience is not given weightage at the time of appointment. Bcaz experienced staff is already fed up due to facing the variety of people. Thats why PIA staff, having vast experience, has always karakhtgi on their faces.

Labour unions are cancer to national flag carriers be it railways, airline, steel mills, teleco operator, power generating enterprises, shipyards, shipping industry port authorities, etc etc (s)elected legislators flood people from their constituencies in such organizations making the organization go in a inversely proportional spin. To keep such organizations profitable & operationally strong Govt shall keep only 25% stake under control with symbolic representation in governing board privatise the system operations and managing affairs.

this is how emirates airline is operating - it is 25% owned by maktoum family of Dubai, supervised operations are under british managment, aircraft ownership is collateral from consortium of 4 DUBAI banks while 65% of sections are outsourced globally.

UAE national flag carrier is Eithad airways 35% owned by Abu Dhabi ruler Zayed family managed by Australians, with French & Dutch from Air France, KLM & SAS.

There are no labour unions - but employee welfare associations to deal with employee problems within organization

I tell you its all PALTICS its just our so called leaders and people at high places who execute such plans just so they can increase their bank balance..these things to normal people seem like a small issue but in reality the results that we see are outcomes of very cleverly planned moves.
-Privatization of steel mill - I seriously dont know what may be the reason behind it, its such a profitable company why privatize it??
-Complete failure of PIA - So that other Airlines earn more.
-PTCL privatization-although its at a good pace,but why send our money out of our country when we can keep it in it.
-strict rules for importing vehicles so that Giants in our country like toyota,honda and suzuki dont have any difficulty selling their shitty Vehicles.

in both steel mill and airline and also railway, more people than needed were hired in recent times. This was because the people who won elections, promised their political workers jobs. So after winning, they got them hired in all state owned companies. That is why it is said that they should be privatized so that such things cant happen.

Pakistan is NOT a business friendly country.

1980's Dubai was just a small trading center for sub-continent goods. Now they are manufacturing / stocking base for world renowned brands serving whole of Middle East and Africa. Africa is highly profitable market. You will see many Indian brands there.
