On ur next oil change u would recommend that you try shell helix hx5 10w40 api sn. It is the yellow box. It works like a charm in old carby cultus

Nice, I will be looking forward to use 10w40 for next oil change but my travelling is so less that next oil change will again come in summer- lol

I got oil change last week. So even its 2007 model, we still have to see its engine design is from 90s to API SG should be better for it? The oil change guy said its always better to used latest API grades like SN etc... Currently I am using Shell HX3 which is SL if I remember correctly.

API SG is fine like i said but you can take more benefit from newer API grades in your cultus as explained by @hassaaniqbal92 he has explained it in detail and correctly.

Arzaam bhai, I think api sm wala would be even better becoz nasir javaids cultus is on hydraulic lifters so latest api grades are supported by the carby cultus

Yes in hydraulic lifters new API grades are backward compatible so he can use minimum API SG is fine and can use up till SN as well in 10W-40 grade.

Depends on the engine type. Ur cultus is a carby one with hydraulic lifters a.k.a dabboo. Similar technology used in toyota corolla engines. These work best on absolutely all oils however the latest grades should be used in a particular viscosity. But the newer efi cultus is very picky about oils. It has old technology flat tappet engines. It is supposed to be fed with grades SL or earlier.

There are some engines for which the term 'backward compatibility' fits in. Many oil companies use the term backward compatible to sell their oils for old tech engines too. But a mehran or an alto would not suite the newer grades whereas ur cultus will

its semi synthetic, it will help clean a little bit of existing deposits to improve the health and performance and fuel economy while not being even nearly as strong as a proper group III base fully synthetic in cleaning so no harm will be done. shell hx5 is just a suggestion, i hope we cleared your concerns and now you know what is best for your car and you can make your choice accordingly.

i just checked the website is confusing, it lists hx5 as 15W-40 and syntehtic, before buying make sure what the specs say on the box or if there is such disparity in shell then scrap it and go for some other brand and preferred specs would be 10W-40 semi synethic or mineral.

Ya the website has not been updated since ages. Hx5 is 10w40 and for the past year and a half, they have discontinued the semi synthetic and introduced the pure mineral range.

I own Khyber 97' and odometer reading's have been reverted to zero and now it is almost 20k.

I would like to ask you all that I want to check/inspect by myself, how to check gasket just to make sure it is in a good condition. I bought this car 6 months earlier. After buying I have spent my time on my car's engine at that time my mechanic have inspected my gasket and said its okay. I don't know previous owner had replaced gasket or not.

Previously I have done a blender of using Guard motor oil 10W-40 and recently I have read a post by a senior pakwheeler stating that "once you have used a thick oil (20W-50) in older car. Never switch to a thin oil like 10W-40 etc... it will cause damage to your engine and cause leakage in gasket". Do you people think that this really happen?

Now i am starting to worry about gasket.

When i was using 10W-40 my engine was running so smooth and response was so strong but engine was reducing oil. Mechanic asked me to get oil change after every 3k KM but engine reduced oil before 2.5K.

Is guard a reliable motor oil or should i switch to Havoline CNG or any other?

Mechanics ask's to check for any bubbles in radiator. There are no bubbles Alhamdulillah. But I need to make sure for my self that it is in good condition.

Need experts opinions about this.

Please dont go for Guard. Pata nae kia oil banatay hongay. Oils are the lifeblood of engine. Put in a good one. Engine tang nae karaiga. Fuel average will improve. Long term cost saving hai.

As far as viscosity is concerned, i.e. 10w40 or 20w50, in my personal experience on both a GTti, which was turbocharged and my current car (Integra with D15b Carb), using 20w50 and switching to 10w40 did nothing.

If there is lots of sludge and seals are old and rigid, a thin oil will leak. If your car was reducing oil on 10w40, it will also do this on 20w50. Check and fix oil leakage reason. Oil gharha dalna is jugar.

Personally i HATE 20w50. They are the lowest quality and grade **** mineral oils which make the engine loud, do **** protection, last very little KMs.

Ive been using Zic A 10w40 since ages and very satisfied. GTti used to run 20w50 Zic Hiflo when the engine had gotten weak before rebuilt and during run in, after that Zic A all the way.

If you find from a reliable person, there is also Castrol Magnatec in 10w40. Very good oil but hard to find.

When i had used 10w-40 my engine was reducing oil but when i switched to 20w-50 every thing fine now. On thin oil there was a smell of oil burning and white smoke from air intake via pcv valve crank shaft case.

Means your engine is not up to mark. Weak piston rings probably. They usually temporary get fixed with thick oil. 10w40 is not a thin oil. If your engine cant take it, it needs work.

But if its working, use it. But in a GOOD 20w50 to get the most out of it.

Dear Friends I have 2015 Mehran with 18K odo, till date I am using Zic A+ (10-40W), but after reading your thread I was wondering If it is a good idea for me to shift to 5-30W. with current oil i am not satisfied with fuel average of the car (12 to 14/Ltr)
do you guys think its a good idea?
