Expensive Honda 3s Dealership

"Hello! I recently took my Honda City to a Honda 3S dealerhip for a 60,000 km maintenance, and they charged me 40,000 PKR for services like throttle body cleaning, catalyst cleaning, and plug cleaning, among other things. This seems quite expensive. Do you think it's worth continuing maintenance with them, or are there better and more affordable options in Islamabad or Rawalpindi for these types of services? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I don't believe they did any of those things, nor are some of those necessary at 60,000km odo, so I'm calling this a complete ripoff.

Fuel Injector Service - what?
Catalytic Clean - what?
Throttle Body Clean with Computer C/Up - what?
Valve Clearance Adjustment - where's the bill for a new valve cover gasket? and let's see the valve cover. bet they didn't even open it.
Computer Check Up - didn't they already charge you for this? or does the throttle body have its own computer?
Brake Service - what was serviced?
General Checkup - what was checked?
and so on.

Except for wheel balancing, alignment and cat con cleaning, got it all done from an ex honda mechanic with proper tools and equipment (at least for the work done) for 14k. Out of which 10k was for oil (kixx g1 5w30), oil filter, air filter and cabin filter.

Balancing + alignment from another shop cost another 2500

Clearly they are very expensive.
example. i pay 1K for wheel balancing and 500 for alignment. But 3S charged 6K for them

Twin cities is full of auto workshops who are providing very good auto services. Check the separate thread of workshop reviews and filter out the workshops in twin cities to visit in future instead.

a dealership have so high fixed cost of land area/tools/rents/salaries/utility bills etc etc - new cars are almost not selling since 2022 and onwards, no premium is there now on new cars which was a major revenue source for them, the only way is to over sell things at insane prices - this is bill of a Honda, see a bill of tiny mini Alto at suzuki - the costs are equivalent to honda if not more. plus, everything they do in terms of labour or part replacement carries sales tax which again inflates the bill.

they always suggest but I politely ask them not to do these optional services. I just get my oil and filter change and call it day. The most I have done is brake service. This not only keep my pocket happy but also the warranty intact. Dont go for outside mechanic. The dealership cant force these services on you. They can only suggest. The mandatory service which keep the warranty intact is the regular oil and filter change. Parts and lubes may be changed according to the manual. Rest all these services are no where in the manual. If confronted tell them to show it in the manual.

I follow the exact same procedure. Only oil and air/oil filters and on alternate visit brake service. Nothing else.

Next time try Honda Classic in I-10. Your experience may be different. As already said, you can deny certain jobs and keep the bill low. Going to random tree shade mechanics is not advised or your next post will be:

To avoid such problems, stay with a 3S dealer. Just pick a good one. Not all 3S dealer are the same. I have personally had experiences which make me say this.

When the dealer says or advises things like cat cleaning, Injector cleaning etc. etc. ask him to show you evidence of why this work needs to be done. E.G. Catalytic converter can be seen using an inspection camera and so on

I have been a customer of Honda Classic since 2003 (Honda City, Civic 7th gen, Civic X gen, BRV) all looked after by them. I never felt that they charged too much.

I have never done it on any of my cars and they ran quite well till the time I sold them.
Same goes for Cat cleaning. If you are not pampering the car always and taking it out for a spin or long drive on motorway making it experience the italian tune up, it never requires such services. You have to be keen and having prior knowledge of what you are going to do before stepping in the dealership workshop to avoid being conned.

I agree that nowadays its very hard to find a good mechanic so sticking with 3s is wise. People happily use after market air and oil filters but saving a few bucks may be very costly in the longer run so I always change these essential items according to the book and from the 3s dealer. for the other gher nisabi job I just skip and they never forced me.

brake service

brake service also get you free tire rotation. rotate it according to the diagram given in the manual. mostly the mechanics have no training on this and will try to push their own idea of rotation but dont listen to them and go by the book.
