rotaries are very unique animals and require a careful maintenance schedule.

the no.1 reason for rotaries dying is lack of maintenance - people dunking in "null ka paani" because "coolant bohot mehenga hai" - then the whole "aasum air intake" which lets dust pass through, using wrong engine oil.

the rotary engine will consume its engine oil, there is a metered pump that injects oil in the rotor housing to keep the apex seals lubricated. Hence an ashless oil is required - otherwise the cat converter dies.

People not spending money to replace the o2 sensors or get it scanned and tested for "wrong running" - for most people - buying an RX8 was that they could impress their girlfreinds and they thought they had become some sort of race driver.

the RX8 that came to Pakistan were gray imports - meaning there was zero support from the manufacturer - and mazda has updated the ECU a few times to compensate for oil metering, fuel injection quantity, ignition timing etc.

none happened in Pakistan.

Yes rotaries are Different animals. I live in Islamabad and currently my 2007 Rx8 is over 100k Driven with no cold or hot start issues. So i am with 100k Club folks.lols.

As far as not driving 8 on short trips is concerned, you can do it but but but you must redline it on first gear on that short trip to avoid carbon buildup, i go to my market and whenever i find a little space i redline it and hence problem solved.
Maintenance is the key but more important is how to maintain it and make the cooling mods so that our 8 can drive in our extreme weather. Your are right in every aspect and if my rotor fails in future, i will replace it with a rotory for sure. BTW, i never put oil in my fuel tank for the past 50k kms, so who knows thats y im getting that astonishing odo reading
