just a pint from my side as well..

on retrieval, make a stay at chilas or besham.. u would already be tired from trek and without stay reaching naran would be hectic for family.

take ur own food and stoves (food is very expensive there)

Bayal Camp is much more beautifull and isolated with respect to fairy meadows... fungtori village is amazing, there is another small peak forgetting its name (ending with bush ) frangrance over there due to some plants is exotic...

one sugesstion,,, on retrieval, try shangla pass from besham to batkhaila in swat valley... route would be like

kkh besham to shangla pass to batkhaila to mingora to home...

road from shangla to batkhaila and upto motor way is very nice (i visited in 2011)

After that its jeep and car so not much tiring involved. I just want to know that if we leave Raikot bridge at 10 or 11am, is it possible to reach Jalkhad by 5-6pm? And is it recommended?

We will definitely visit Beyal Camp. Are there any facilities there to stay, like huts or something? Or any camps available on rent? Heard about Fantugi village from Asif Bhai and will definitely visit it. Please recall the name of the peak and advice its trekking details so that we can add it into our plan.

We were planning to hit Babusar pass / Naran on our return but your advise to take shangla pass / mingora route seems interesting. Will check that too.

Mubeen Bhai, now that you have told us that the view of NP upclose is out of this world, i dont want to miss it. But the problem is that i dont think my team can trek for 10-12 hours in one day. Can we get that view if we trek only 1-2 hours further from Beyal Camp?

Raikot to Jalkhad would be around 8-9 hours. So yes you can make it easily if you leave Raikot at 10 AM. I don't think there will be any issue. In 2012, we left Besal at 6 PM and reached Chilas at 12 AM, there were no issues.

Huts are available at Beyal Camp. Camps can also be taken on rent from FM.

We were 19+2 people in a coaster. Alhamdulillah nothing bad happened. There were many police check posts in between.

Btw, I think Babusar Pass falls in Kaghan valley and Babusar Village falls in Northern Areas (not in Kohistan District). The Mansehra-Balakot-Naran-Babusar-Chilas route is often used to by-pass the Kohistan section of KKH.

Thanks a lot. Your idea to return via shangla pass seems interesting. How much time will it take to reach Khwazakhela from Chilas, any idea? Also advise road condition. If we reach Khwazakhela in the evening, we can visit Kalam the next day before leaving back to home. Please guide if there are any good hotels available around Khwazakhela or Bahrain.

We would leave lahore in the evening around 8-9 pm. That means we would be crossing Mansehra by 4-5am. Is it safe to travel ahead of Mansehra at this time?
Since we are not expert trekkers, we would not be carrying camps or anything professional with us. I heard that camps are available on rent there. Whats their cost?
Considering Mubeen Bhai's feedback, the trek to NP BC and back takes 10-12 hours which seems quite difficult for amateurs like us. I think we shall visit beyal camp and then trek another hour or so towards and BC and return back as I dont think we would be able to make it. Any special items required for that trekking? Like special shoes or sticks or can it be done with normal gadgets?

If u r starting from Lahore at night then next day do not stop at Abbottabad and carry on for Chilas. I have done it twice. Took 12 a.m. buses from Lahore to Mansehra then got jeep and reached Chilas around 7-8 p.m. There are no security issues while travelling in Abbottabad Mansehra area.

Just take rain coats and hiking sticks with u and joggers with good grip will do the job as it is gravel, soil trek and no glacier crossings till Beyal Camp and the width is normally reasonable. Most of the trek has trees around the trek.

Your idea is good. One day visit to NP base camp is only recommended for experienced trekkers as weather can go bad any moment. Yes, u can view whole landscape of Nanga Parbat even from Fairy Meadows and also from the area ahead of Beyal Camp. You can return back once u get a good view provided cloud cover allows u to gaze at Nanga Parbat

Get up early morning, offer Fajr prayers and enjoy early morning views of Nanga Parbat. Early morning rays at the peaks are amazing

Road is good but there is no point crossing Shangla in the dark as u wont be able to see anything. Stay at Besham as there are lots of hotels there. Then next morning cross Shangla and then continue the route to Mingora and onwards to Mardan. But one important thing is that the moment u will go down from Shangla u will face very hot weather while Babusar and Kaghan side weather will be pleasant till Balakot.

Drop idea to visit Kalam as it would be 2 days detour at minimum.

u cant cross shangla top same day u leave raikot.. u should have a classical night at ptdc besham,,, worth passing a night on indus bank

yar i have been to FM 2 times in 2011 and 2012 , minimum 3 nights stay rakho Fairy meadows i had made up to base camp in 2011 its was very hectic .. we reached fairy meadows and next day trekked up to base camp then came back and next day moved back to raikot bridge ... enjoy the scenery enjoy your stay there dont make it a burden cz tours are made for refreshment, and about food buy ready made food packs from hyper star i took them with me every time on fairy meadows and believe me it cuts huge amount of extra cost one food pack is for 2 persons and average price of a food pack is 200 rupee including roti price 2 persons get full with in 260 to 300 rupee per time and if you take local food it will cost you more then 500 to 600 for 2 persons . i have one of contact there if you need discounted hotel rooms or camping he will provide you .

road from thakot bridge to Chillas is very rough and in bad condition thats the main reason behind the slow move and from chillas to jaglot road was under construction hope so they have made it now

yes camps sre available there also there r cotages there. i am not current on rates i went there a long time ago.....

the trek from FM to NB BC is not 10-12 hrs. it takes abt 1.5 hrs to reach Beyal camp. then another 0.5 hrs to view point from there its 3-4 hrs to BC...
if u ad them its 6 hrs. yes the two way is abt 10-12 hrs......

its difficult to achieve two way in one day
