After 6-7 km from the Jaglot on KKH - you reach the point from where the indication say - FOR SKARDU

and down the road you reach the traditional Bridge on River , from this crossing you are on the Skardu road

Skardu* is a town and capital of*Skardu District, in*Gilgit,Gilgit-Baltistan. Skardu is in the 10 kilometres (6 miles) wide by 40 kilometres (25 miles) longSkardu Valley, at the confluence of the*Indus*and the*Shigar River.[1]Skardu is at an altitude of nearly 2,500 metres (8,202 feet) . The town is surrounded by grey-brown coloured mountains, which hide the8,000 metre peaks*of the nearby*Karakoram*range
Skardu, along with*Gilgit, are the two major tourism, trekking and expedition hubs in*Gilgit–Baltistan. The mountainous terrain of the region, including four of the world's 14*Eight-thousander*peaks (8,000 m and above), attracts the attention of tourists, trekkers and mountaineers from around the world. The main tourist season is from April to October; except at this time, the area can be cut off for extended periods by the snowy, freezing winter weather.
Accessible from Skardu by road, the nearby*Askole*and*Hushe*are the main gateways to the snow-covered 8,000 m peaks including*K2, the*Gasherbrums,Broad Peak, and theTrango Towers, and to the huge glaciers of*Baltoro,Biafoand*Trango. This makes Skardu the main tourist and mountaineering base in the area, which has led to the development of a reasonably extensive tourist infrastructure including shops and hotels. However, the popularity of the region results in high prices, especially during the main trekking season.
Treks to the*Deosai Plains, the second highest in the world at 4,114 metres (13,497*ft) above sea level, after the*Chang Tang*inTibet, either start from or end at Skardu. In the local*Balti language, Deosai is called*Byarsa, meaning 'summer place'. With an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometres (1,158*sq*mi), the plains extend all the way to Ladakh and provide habitat for*snow leopards,ibex,Tibetan blue bears*and wild horses

Bro that will be great - and it will feel more great - when you have passed through the KKH portion from Pattan to Dasu , which is completely in shambles - very tough road is errodded at some points - hope and pray that All the KKH be carpeted like that -

Gilgit*is the*Capital city*of*Gilgit-Baltistan, an administrative territory of*Pakistan. The city of Gilgit constitutes atehsil*within Gilgit District.*

Gilgit was an important city on the*Silk Road, along which*Buddhism*was spread from South Asia to the rest of*Asia. It is considered as a Buddhism corridor from which many Chinese monks came to Kashmir to learn and preach*Buddhism

Gilgit city is one of the two major hubs for all mountaineering expeditions in*Gilgit–Baltistan. Almost all tourists headed for treks inKarakoram*or*Himalaya Ranges*arrive at Gilgit first. Gilgit is served by the nearby*Gilgit Airport. Many tourists choose to travel to Gilgit by air, since road travel between*Islamabad*and Gilgit, by the*Karakoram Highway, takes 14–24 hours, whereas the air travel takes a mere 55–60 minutes

There are several tourist attractions relatively close to Gilgit:Naltar Valleywith*Naltar Peak,Hunza Valley,Nagar Valley,Fairy MeadowinRaikot,Shigartown,Skarducity,Haramosh Peakin*Karakoram Range,Bagrot-Haramosh Valley,Deosai National Park,Astore Valley,Rama Lake,Juglot*town, Phunder village,Yasin Valley, Kargah Valley andnomal, Gilgit Baltistan.

Gilgit lies about 10 kilometres (6.2*mi) off the Karakoram Highway (KKH). The KKH connects it to*Chilas,Dasu,Besham,Mansehra,Abbottabad*and Islamabad in the south. In the north it is connected to*Karimabad (Hunza)andSust*in the Northern Areas and to the*Chinese*cities of*Tashkurgan,UpalandKashgar*in*Xinjiang.
There are transport companies, e.g.,Silk RouteTransport Pvt,MasherbrumTransport Pvt and*Northern Areas Transport Corporation*(NATCO). From these NATCO offers the most coverage. It offers passenger road service between*Islamabad, Gilgit,Sustand*Tashkurgan; road service between Kashgar and Gilgit (via Tashkurgan and Sust) started in the summer of 2006. However, the border crossing between China and Pakistan at*Khunjerab Pass—the highest border of the world—is open only between 1 May and 15 October. During winter, the roads are blocked by snow. Even during the*monsoon*season in summer, the roads are often blocked due to*landslides. The best time to travel on Karakoram Highway is spring or early summer.[citation needed]
The*Astore-Burzul Road, linking Gilgit to*Srinagar*was closed in 1978.
