All the Liana, sunny, lancer, etc. we see are from the same era I.e. 2005-2007/8. When these cars were introduced, people did buy them. The companies, however, betrayed their customers and left/discontinued. Its only after that the resale prices took a nose dive.
New car entrants were given import concessions so they can compete, establish themselves and invest here in our auto sector to produce locallymade cars. Instead, they took advantage of the concession given to them to sell imported cars without investing much here. Their cars were CKU which were merely assembled here. No localization of key components hence very little investment.
As soon as their 3 year concession period was over, they packed up and went home. They had no long term plan and no strategy to survive. They were here to make a quick buck.
FAW has not invested much in Pak either. No vast after sales service network, no major manufacturing plant, etc. They have little too loose if they had to leave or become unsuccessful. What's the guarantee Pakistani customers won't be dumped again and won't they the value of their lifetime earnings taking a nosedive?
