A very interesting thread, I have been in a same position few years back but ended up buying HJ60 as it can accommodate more people. Intended purpose of the vehicle is to take family on a long trips.
Pls suggest mechanics who could give ample time to repair such old vehicles rather then keeping them parked unattended in their garages.
I'd be interested if you guys plan a meet up to discuss our vehicles.

Usually all mechanics would keep s vehicle standing for a long period of time. Considering the time it will take because the usually give preference to vehicles which require 1 to 2 days of work to keep the money inflow coming.
There is a very good mechanic of 4x4s named nasir Baluch he used to have a set up in goli mar but now shifted to port qasim (on national highway) will give you his number in a day or two.
Other wise there is one right opposite FTC behind beacon house building next to mohammad oil Ustad kala. He doesn't take more than 2 vehicles at a time.

Sir there are two types of undercoating. One is a regular oil paint (which I got done ) but this is recommended when there is no surface rust on the frame and body. It take hardly a day to get it done. Usually it would cost not more than 5k. I tried a new painter he has a set up behind NMC before parsi gate right after a medical centre (forgot the name ).
The second option is to get A thick layer of undercoating which is called damber paint. This would be done any small service station and would cost 1 to 2 k. Normal painters won't do it as their paint jets are very small and don't support high viscous paints.

I need some guidance over how much in total would it cost for restoring an FJ40 1983/84 model. Please some accurate ideas will be encouraging. Secondly how much time would it take.

Majority of the time is consumed by the person doing the body work and painter. Somewhere around 2 to 4 months. Depending up the persons availability and interest.
An fj would cost you if you don't go with the engine gear and differential plus axel swap around a million which would include registration engine overhaul rims and tyres upholstry electrical. May be a hard top as well. That's what's I know so far but the other experts can give you a better idea.
And the total thing can take anywhere from 6 months to a year.

I like stock interior and exterior but with 1kz auto transmission. So getting few answers would be great from any experienced person.
Q: Which 1kz should i go for with auto transmission ?

Sorry but i am new to this and have no idea about diesels and restoration plus I'm new in Lahore so i dont know any good places. But my love for FJ is more than anything. So i need to decide in this month of july to get one or not otherwise my dad is gonna get me some City or something which is boring.

KZ is a good engine but there are new engines out there. Don't know about the prices in Lahore. But my personal experience is to keep everything stock. Lesser alterations would ensure reliability. My fj is a daily drive and that's because of keeping every thing stock. Others may differ from my opinion but that's what I think. If you don't have experience the I would suggest meet up with people who have Fj's in Lahore and they would gladly share their experiences with you. I would suggest get a restored fj this would help you save time and money as you will spend here and there as directed by mechanics. And if the fj is registered more than 5 years then it would help you save the withholding tax which can cost up to 200k.

In my opinion, you can source these from Pindi or Quetta and get them transported. Transportation cost won't be much. I can give you contact details in both Pindi and Quetta. PM me if you need.
