OK! Recommend that you should get complete RKR diffs possibly with 4 wheel disc brakes. You should tell your local kabaria to source these and give you a gurantee that diffs will be original Kabuli ones and not locally used stuff.

i'm not sure about wut "RKR" stands for. but i think ur talking about the land cruiser 70 series. if so, there is a wide rage of models in that series. are all their tubes the same? is there any difference in petrol/diesel? do the front and rear have the same ratios?

See earlier post ....RKR is the petrol 3F engine 70 series models used by the Pak Army. Front and rear must have the same ratios. Difference between petrol and diesel diffs is the gear ratios. Despite variations track width of the various 70 series diffs should be largely the same and suitable for 40 series.

Nice pics the diffs appear to be in decent shape and you should get a good rebate/discount from the kabaria when you trade these in. You do seem to have all four drum brakes on there.

I have finally got hold of some rust proofing. I would have coated the body, frame, axles..etc...just about everything with the rust proofing before fitting it all back together. The stuff i have can be painted over. I did not have this when i started the project...but am spraying the jeep under carriage with this stuff now.

after speaking to a couple of mechanics i have been told the the higher the ratio the faster the speed.

eg. 4.100 is faster then a 3.700

but on this calculator, http://www.csgnetwork.com/gearratcalc.html when you put in a higher mph it gives you a lower ratio?

NO.. higher the ratio.. lower the speed.. 3.7 is more road oriented and 4.1 is more offroad oriented

1st gear has a high ratio than 2nd. you always get more speed in 2nd on same rpm

so i wud get a faster car by keeping my 37x10 diff then if i swap it with a newer model 41x10 or a 43x10?? =S

And as Saqib pointed out higher ratios are better offroad. Both the 3.7s and 4.1s are pretty well suited to the larger petrol engines. 3.7s would be too much for most diesels except probably the B series.

glad to see you're back to the rescue, for a while i thought i had chased you away with the questions.

as your earlier recommendation i have been searching for those tubes. im having trouble finding 4 wheels discs. cars with rear discs usually come with an independent front suspension sadly, so haven't been able to locate the tubes yet. [meaning havnt had a chance to go to peshawar yet]

in my search tho i have come across more questions:

-some mechanics dont recommend LSD, they say the clutches wear out and jam everything together

-i plan on getting diff lockers later on for offroading. so, i would really only need LSD on roads. do you still think i should get it? i mean with the pros n cons would it still be worth it? with the lockers? or will the LSD replace the need for the lockers? cuz to my understanding, lockers are also very hard to get

Bro, I believe some later model of LandCruiser 70 series had 4 wheel discs but agree that these may be difficult to find. You should ask your local kabaria to source these for you instead of going on a wild diff-hunt to Peshawar, which rarely works unless you know the right people there. But bear in mind that even 2 wheel discs would work decently well, its just that 4 wheels would be ideal given the kinda power your engine will hopefully give you.

On LSDs, I wouldn't really bother too much to be honest as things should work pretty well without them. On diff-locks you can get these later, though it might cost you more, but honestly as long as you don't plan to do some really hardcore offroading, you will never really need these with the set-up you are going for.
