Hype around Force India's sale is because of how bad they are in financially at the moment, everything they own is not theirs but belongs to those creditors that have lend them money to run the team. As Vijay Mallaya is also in trouble with some tax shenanigans in India and Indian court have confiscated his assets in the country, he has taken money from other sources to run the team with the promise of paying them back in a time frame which have passed a while back.

The only thing that has some value is the Force India F1 entry which is what is going to be sold to some one else. This whole summary is what the business perspective of Force India's sale now the F1 perspective as why people are interested in this sale and why the hype on this sale.

Force India as a team in last 3 seasons has finished in upper midfield 4th or 5th which means the team is getting better but even this good showing of results has not increase the commercial interest in this team and not many new sponsors have made any deals with them in the last 3 seasons. Which is a worrying sign for all the F1 teams as it clearly shows that if a team which is finishing in the upper midfield cannot attract sponsorship money then how could lower midfield or back marker teams would get any sponsorship money.

Without having a continue supply of money most small teams (Williams, Sauber) will end up selling or closing the operation in the future. Although Sauber have just got the Alfa Romeo deal from Ferrari/Fiat, Toro Rosso is under RedBull ownership, HAAS is getting Ferrari's tech support, Renault is getting the factory funding and that leaves Force India and Williams with out a serious money supply and that is showing in both teams financial status.

F1 is also considering to put tenders for new teams for 2021 season but with this sort of financial trouble not many will be interested in joining the grid.
