Not for the first time this season, Kimi Raikkonen ripped up the Ferrari script with a last-gasp lap that earned him pole position for the Italian Grand Prix.
On a weekend charged with even more emotion than usual at Monza, with Michael Schumacher set to announce his future plans following Sunday’s race, Raikkonen upstaged the tifosi’s hero for his third pole in four races.
McLaren boss Ron Dennis says that the team will continue to bide its time before deciding on Fernando Alonso’s team-mate for 2007.
With Kimi Raikkonen all set to be named as a Ferrari driver for next year after the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, attention will soon focus on the vacancy at the Woking-based squad alongside the world champion.

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner says “it would make sense” for the team to switch its supply of customer Ferrari engines to sister outfit Toro Rosso for next season.
RBR signed a two-year deal for a supply of the Italian manufacturer's V8s in May 2005, but is believed to want to change which Red Bull team uses the power plants next year – paving the way for the main squad to tie up a a Renault customer deal.
