Hi Perwaz it was nice to read abt ur trips and I believe we have lot in common as me and my 3 boys and wife also love long drives our last long journy was from Bangkok to Phuket and back.
I am planing to go to Shandur and from there to gilgit and back to lahore on my Jeep CJ7 with one friend and few helpers if any one from Isb or Lahore wants to join us pls contact me on my email. we will be leaving lahore on 3rd july 2007

Yes my dear you are right.....we have a lot in common......The trip you have planned is my dream trip but unfortunately I do not have any jeep and my family do not let me travel alone as they are also long drive enthusiasts.

Dear I will come from Karachi straight to Lahore. I shall stay overnight in Lahore most probably in Crystal Hotel near Station because I usually stay there. On 25-06-2007 I shall leave hotel and will go to Data sahab. Will stay there for half an hour and then will proceed towards Besham via Pindi....Abbottabad.....Mansehra and straight to Besham using Karakaram Highway. Will stay over night there in PTDC Hotel at Besham. Next day I shall proceed to Gilgit leaving Besham early morning. Gilgit is 400 Kilometers from Besham but mountainous road. It all depends....I could go straight to Karimabad as well which is 100 kilometers from Gilgit. I shall stay 2 days in Karimabad and shall leave for SOST at 10 am and shall reach SOST within 2 hours. Shall stay there overnight. Keeping all my luggage in a hotel in SOST I shall proceed to Khunjrab pass early in the morning because I have to go there and come back in one shot as there is no place to stay at Khunjrab. By 4 to 5 pm I should be in SOST again. Overnight stay there and will leave SOST early in the morning and will proceed to Skardu. Will stay 2 days in Shangri-La and will leave Skardu early in the morning and will proceed to Chilas....Overnight stay there and from Chilas to Shogran straight. Will stay 2 days there.
Dear I can change it to meet your requirements as I have seen those places many times. As far as total expenses is concerned it depends what you are driving, eating and where staying. Roughly if you moderately do it then it should not exceed more than 20,000 or even less depends on your spending. I hope that might have cleared lot of your questions. If you have any other queries then please feel free to ask me.

You have not mentioned which car you will be driving. It all depends from car to car. Fuel of Land Cruiser is way higher than Suzuki Alto. please let me know which car you intend to use.
A 1200 cc car along with CNG will do in Rs.20,000.

Before Earth Quake the road was excellent. I have not travelled after Earth Quake so I do not know the road condition. This is particularly I am talking about shogran The road from Chilas to Mansehra is excellent.

Will like to provide you the info abt roads in Naran area, I went there in Sep 2006 for mountain bike rally, the road from Balkot has been distroyed by earth quake and have land slides there is no electrcity there now. You can go upto Naran by car but I beleive the road from Kawai till Shogran is now only jeepable. When will you be coming back.

I believe the trip EST. you gave is not right as looking at the fuel cost as you cant get CNG after Manshera hoteling as PTDC min rates are 2500.00/night and food and misc cost.

Dear I have already mentioned above that it all depends what you eat and where u stay. It is not necessary to stay in PTDC Hotel. You can stay anywhere you like depends on your budget. I have not included PTDC in your budget that was my intention entirely. Now look at another scenario:
Besham.....saty in Abbasien Hotel it cost only Rs.300 per night. and rest are almost same onwards.Even in Hunza you can easily find hotels in cheaper rates. For your info there are many hotels in Hunza. Till now you have not mentioned what will be your ride? If CNG is really not available after Mansehra than fuel cost will increase but even than you can do within my specified budget of Rs.20,000 and I am sure of it. Just cut down your other expenses and you will be all set.
