Fuel Additives : Do they work?

Yep, few quality is bad here! As for the pumps, i've tried 2-3 pumps for high octane, like Total in Allama Iqbal Town gives **** fuel! its High octane and super are the same thing! whereas the Shell petrol pump on Ferozpur road gives good High octane, you can feel the difference between petrol and High octane! theres a noticable difference in the car's performance! im currently using fuel from Garden Town TOTAL! and its fine :s!

I used STP's Fuel Injection Cleaner a month on my 2000 Civic Vti and imo i haven't noticed any major difference!
btw are these Liqui Moly Injector cleaner and octance booster available in Lahore? If yes, then for how much?

as liquimolyy is a good brand so should make sum difference.but all these additives so destroy sparkplugs so if ur usin any expemsive sparkplugs do replace them wrh cheaper 1s for time being while usin these additives

Never put injector cleaner in your fuel tank. Remember it is a "detergent" formula design to losen up all the gunk. And it will loosen up a lot of it inside your fuel tank where the injector cleaner additive will be exposed for much longer than injectors. This could spell death for your fuel pump and cause costly repairs.

Regarding octane boosters, well the ingredients added to fuel for specific octane grade are complicated science created by wise men in white coats. And it doesnt come any cheap either. If boosting octane levels was as easy as buying over the shelf product and pouring it in your fuel tank then not only these wise men would loose job but hi-octane fuel would be much cheapers. Most of these octane boosters are just coloured methanol with some fancy but useless ingredients which simply retard the combustion of fuel to make it behave like higher octane. But in the long run it has more damage than good. Unless you have a track vehicle pushed to edge for competition sake where serviceability doesnt mean a thing.

Octane boosters only work in high compression cars running on standard Gasoline 69.

The idea is to increase the ignition(detonation) temperature according to the compression to achieve a complete and efficient burn. This also means that there is less chances of pre-detonation (not pre-ignition) which is engine knocking.

I may be wrong with this as i have little experience with the idea.

i use fuel injector cleaner in my EFI cars ad well as oil which has additives etc,... now the only thing missing is fuel with detergents.

seriously though i've tried "intake valve cleaner" in my VW and it worked better than expected. when i put it in the tank it helped suspend the deposits so well that just to finish that tank of fuel involved replacing the fuel filter 3 TIMES!! LOL!!

using cleaning additives on new cars in PK is a little pointless but if you don't then the problems (due to poor fuel etc) will get worse quickly. so i use fuel injector cleaner in my EFI cars 2-3 times a year considering my milage/usage,.. and it seems to help,.. but there is no scientific proof at the moment, will have to check the surf when i get back.

i agree stp is so useful i added some of their engine oil additive to my car's oil and it stopped burning engine oil i have been using my car(margalla) like this for about a year without any problems:-$

I was a fool myself, I tried to put in these additives to increase performance in my Mercedes E320, but all it did is mess up my Oxygen Sensor, my catalytic converter went out. This happens over a while not right away, but it is harmful.

If the additives were really that great, the Fuel Companies would add them in the fuel.

As the title says - the query is about Fuel additives.

Here are the updates :

The injectors and valve cleaner by LiquiMoly are is for 800 Rupees, and the octane booster is for 650 Rupees.

Both of them are to be added to 75 liters of petrol.

Tried the injector and valve cleaner and couldn't feel any difference in the first 30 odd kilometers.

Lets see if it acts slowly.

Im using this product from last 2 full tank and i have notice sight differ in pick and smoothness of the engine .. its says to add one bottle with full tank ... dont have the actual bottle pic at the moment abt will upload on my nxt purchase

A: cant tell abt this as i use cng n petrol both ... cng 6 kg with ac goes 85km .. havnt notice the petrol avg as i never let the petrol end usually get it filled on last quarter

I've traveled around 3000 km in the last week, that's around 7 full refills of fuel tank.

Here's what I tried.

On all three occasions, the fuel was filled from the same place.

1- Liquimoly injector cleaner (the guy said it reduces knocking) - 800 Rupees
2- Liquimoly octane booster - 650 Rupees
3- Tiger booster - 3 tiny bottles of 35 Rupees each. (the large one costs 60 rupees, but wasn't available)

Now the best results, surprisingly, came from the cheapest 35 rupees Tiger Booster. It was the only product which eliminated knocking. Didn't feel absolutely any difference with injector cleaner (that might be due to the fact that my injectors were already clean). The octane booster by Liquimoly reduced knocking, but didn't eliminate it. It was eliminated only by Tiger.

I can't say much about the tiny difference in acceleration, since I don't know my car that well as yet.
