Honestly, I was about to buy the Swift 2024 model, but I heard from my college he owns the Swift 2022 model, that the engine started to get holes in it, and the engine blasted out of nowhere. It's been a year only, and it was a new car. So, that's the reason I was thinking of buying a Yaris.

Not sure how an engine just blasts out of nowhere. But that was a one-off. These Suzuki engines are very reliable and last a very long time. The transmission will most probably go out before the engine does. If the looks of the Yaris aren't a problem for you then go with that by all means. IF you maintain it well it'll last a VERY long time.

That is true but I'm not too sure how its DCT will fare in the longer run. Plus the Japanese brands have much larger service networks so maintenance etc will be more convenient for OP.

Yup, very good point. I made sure to purchase the manual variant specifically for this reason. Car has been quite reliable otherwise though

Same reason I got the manual variant of the Swift. I don't trust the Jatco CVT for the longer run since I plan on keeping the car for a VERY long time if God wills it.

Me neither, but yeah, it happened last week. I was about to buy the Swift, but then all the other people told me to buy a Yaris instead of a Suzuki.

Was talking about the Changan Alsvin there. It comes with a DCT, not a CVT. You should just go with a Yaris. Super reliable and won’t bug you in the longer run. And if you get it used make sure to get a PakWheels Inspection done.

The most fuel efficient car of Pakistan in above 1000cc category if fuel economy is important for you.

Don’t worry about some negative comments, you will find such for any car out there and some random cases of issues happen in all the machines.

Swift CVT auto is sold in thousands and has great reviews worldwide. It is absolutely stupid thinking to buy a manual car in 2024 just because someone heard some rumors that its CVT is not that reliable. Which is not true and it’ll last thousands of miles easily. Like I said some negative reviews exist for every freaking car and machine out there.

You have local support for it from Suzuki, a reliable machine, and extremely fuel efficient.

Do not even for one moment think about Chinese Alsvin. No comparison.

Yaris is an OK car but not even close to fuel efficiency of Swift. Shape also sucks. I always tell people to buy a used Grande instead of Yaris because Yaris is terrible in front of Grande and overpriced as hell, also super ugly looking and a bit cramped.

It is not that CVTs are unreliable (although Nissan gets the most hate out of it) it is that when something does go wrong its a bigger pain to rectify. Regardless, it would absolutely be fine for at least 150k km. Most cars are using some form of CVT namely; BRV, Grande, New 1.6 Altis, Civic, City, Yaris, and HRV to name a few. Chinese DCTs on the other hand I am terrified of.

I made a comment earlier about getting a manual transmission Alsvin for this reason earlier; but the context was that this would be a company car driven by an executive who tend to treat their cars as rough as a rental. I would imagine that if the common person experiences even the slightest bit of a hiccup this would not handle any rough driving for a prolonged period.

Also I could not agree more on the used Grande comment! Heck, if fuel efficiency is a concern get a 1.6 Altis if it is mostly city driving. Excellent cars and a big upgrade to a Yaris.

Yes a used Grande is an exceptional value machine.

Reliable, fuel efficient for being 1.8, very roomy, 2016+ models are adequately feature packed, plus it is quick and fast!

Neither Yaris nor City come close to it, they’re a segment below anyway so there is no direct comparison but I always tell people to not go for NEW Yaris n City as they are overpriced.

Among Yaris and city indeed City is better looking.

However if priority is fuel economy and not bigger car then Swift is the best choice. Just too good in economy.

Sound like he was running it with no ENGINE OIL or the service center forgot to tighten the drain nut

100% agreed; although I'd recommend a facelift so anything after 2017 as those have the most features and the facelift had made a lot of changes in the suspension. Even a normal 1.6 would be great if one does not care about cruise control, auto AC, sunroof and the keyless unlock when the key is closeby.
