I am really happy to see the Chinese cars will be made in Pakistan. It would be just like what happened to the Motorbike Industry in the past. As we all know, how only two or three small motorbike assemblers, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, used to charge so much for their limited one or two models 50 years old design that were assembled in Pakistan. But when Chinese Motorbikes were assembled in Pakistan with Pakistani local partners, the cost of motorbike reduced to half. Now we have almost 40 motorbike manufacturers, that make more than one MILLION motorbikes in Pakistan, thanks to Chinese friends.
I hope same thing could happen in the car industry. With Chinese Auto Industry booming, and advancing so fast, we should have Chinese-Pakistani Car plants all over Pakistan, that can show these three car assemblers, Toyota, Honda and Suzuki, that enough is enough, they charge too much, almost 3 times more than the International Market Price for a Corolla, Civic, or even a Suzuki that is assembled in Pakistan, they do not transfer the engine/transmission technology.
Specially Suzuki which is still making 30 years old models like 1980 Carry Van and Pick Up and Suzuki Alto 1986 model and charging so much for these models. Suzuki also makes these same models in India and China but at 3 times cheaper price, why is that? The labor cost is also low in Pakistan, but they do not transfer the Engine/Tranmission techonology to Pakistan, so that is one reason those 30 year old Basic Models with no power steering, no power windows, nothing special, are sold 3 times more expensive, than Chinese or Indian made Suzukis that have all the power options too.
China always helped Pakistan in many fields, and now hopefully, in the car industry too, we will have our Chinese friends make good cars in Pakistan that people of Pakistan deserve.
Long live China-Pakistan friendship.
