Agreed!! no comparison. Actually, to someone who's looking for a primary ride, the dominant considerations are cost/availability of parts, resale prospects, age/mileage and the general level of prestige and status symbolism. A 2004 VTi Oriel or SE Saloon are a notch above the 1998 Galant in those respects.
And for those of us who are interested in collecting cars based on high performace, sheer driving pleasure, or just the class appeal have enough disposable income to look at soooo many (much) superior options. The market is flooded with nice, relatively affordable & sexy rides. Which is why I'm saying that a 1998 Galant doesnt really have a clear niche, unless its priced right.
You see, a 1998 Galant has a nostalgic appeal only to those of us who were old enough in the ninties to appreciate is distinction compared to the civics & corollas of that era. Caz those were the choicest rides in those days. But that appeal doesnt mean inelastic demand my friend.
But hey, who knows, you might get someone willing to pay 850 for it even today.
