pakwheelers,
I wonder if any of the experts here can help me out. Let me tell the story first, then what I think is wrong:
I have done the mod described here, bought new carburetor, drilled new hole and placed tube for gas in the correct place in the venturi. Instead of modifying the regulator like here, I put a separate, parallel line for gas with a solenoid that is connected to the starter. So when the starter is turned on, gas flows to the carburetor to start it, then when it starts that solenoid is closed and gas is just coming from the regular regulator.
Anyway, was working well, starting straight from gas with no need for petrol for some months.
Then I was out of the country for 2 months, when I came back, I started it with some difficulty a couple of times (took several cranks before it caught) then it was having difficulty starting at all. (At one point I was starting it and it made a noise like a very loud sneeze not sure if that's a sign of anything)
Anyway, I tried many things, like new spark plug, new coil, etc. The situation now is this:
It will start if I choke it partially with some difficulty, then I turn of the choke and it works fine. But with choke off, I can't get it to start using just gas.
It seems to me like there is not enough vacuum being produced in the venturi? The only reason I can see for that would be a leak somewhere, right? In one of the gaskets, maybe? What do you think?
When I take out the spark plug and cover the hole with my thumb and turn the flywheel, I can easily keep it closed with my thumb, in fact, I don't really feel any pressure at all. Is this a sign of not enough compression, or is this normal for these engines?
Please help me.
