German Vs American cars

This thread has turned into personal opinions based on perception rather than realities.

In the US, most roads are wide, straight and flat. US automakers make cars that work well on these roads. In Europe, a lot of roads are tiny, twisty and with a lot of change in elevations. Cars made in Europe caters to that environment.

Have you ever wondered why there are USDM designated vehicles? The same model sold in EU or Japan will most probably have different options. I am not talking about emissions and safety standards; I am talking about engine, transmission and suspension options.

The old perception of US cars being big with big motors is not valid anymore. Look at the sedan lineup of GM and Ford and you will be hard pressed to find any hunk of metal with a big V8 like the old days. Some of these vehicles are competing very well against there rivals from across the pond.

Both are good at their own. and just having straight line power, well that's changing now. examples are CTS-V and ZR1. i'm a huge German car's fan specially Merc but nothing in sound can be sweet as a Vette.

an american car is a car with pathetic handling, silly gas milage, leather seats and cup holders! yes they may be faster than the competition (sometimes) but the interior plastics are as cheap as our mehrans!

German cars have their own class, they are just a pure blend of Perfect modern Engineering.

the only american car that ever impressed me are the chevorlate caprice classic from 86 to 95... rest germans all the way and yeah among the germans and italian i prefers italians coz lambos got their own passion

Guys, what if I said the new Mustang GT can run with the M3 at one half the price? "Enthusiasts" have been so busy whinging about American cars and their so-called low technology that they haven't noticed them coming as close as they have to the established European competition.

For the 20k+ that's left behind, you can treat yourself to some tasteful performance mods, petrol and rear tires.

The only thing that you might considr to be lowtech is the rear live axle, otherwise, it's got dual variable cams, all alloy motor, a slick shifting 6 speed and a whole bunch of other tech goodies.

BTW, it's only 2 BHP shy of the Lexus IS-Fs engine for the same engine size. Talk about primitive American engines!

Here's another thing that'll give you something to think about, fuel economy. You really think American cars are gas guzzlers? Think again:

i would like to add more
most of cars in 60's had disks in front and American cars had drums
i like old muscle classics just because of sound of v8 engines else in technology they suk badly and
for example a shelby mustang clamis that it has 500hp but on dyno it was 450 as on top gear i knw they are noobs as well
but the real thing which put me of that a 500 hp car has no LSD?:o

american sports cars are harder to drive on the limits than 911 turbos... live axles, torquey V8s, truck gearboxes.

but i forgive EVERYTHING if the car has a V8 (regardless of where it's made)
