GLI 2013 Manual - Cabin Noise and Outside Air Coming Inside

I have recently bought GLI 2013 manual 1.3

There is a lot of noise inside cabin while driving such as, Noise of tyres (i installed all four brand new tyres, complete brand new suspension, new steering box, alignment is ok), noise of air (mechanic said its due to poor door rubbers and the lock maker said all four door locks has to be changed but he can't assure that new locks are the solution.

I went to purchase new rubbers for doors and bidding but people said i can't find genuine one. The one available are not durable and of low quality.

Some people suggested me to install insulation sheet inside car floor and surrounding. I am not sure if that's gonna help to fix noise problem.

I also feel engine heat inside cabin.

Need expert advice.

First I will suggest, do not buy aftermarket weather proofing (Door Rubbers) for your car. And keep it running on the original ones.

I’ve done this mistake few years ago with my jeep. Luckily I didn’t throw the older rubbers. Hence after one week I shift back to its original rubbers because they were the best & soft.

After market rubbers become hard in 2-3 days and when you will pull to close the door, you will literally feel that someone has kicked the door from outside.

If you are from Lahore or Twin Cities, I can give you contact to install the fire wall Namda. It will almost block all the heat from Engine Bay to enter in the cabin.

I don’t know which vehicle you were driving before, but having this outside noise into the cabin is pretty normal for PDMs. Have observe it in lot of PDMs. You will get used to it slowly. Meanwhile I will suggest to turn on the music in light volume while driving the car.

I used to drive new cars before Altis and Prius. I just purchased this 2013 Gli and now i am uncomfortable with these noises.
I am from Karachi.

I have found a spare part importer who said can provide me with brand new original door rubbers @Rs.12000 (only door rubbers and not biddings).

I'm thinking about taking out all seats and dashboard to install insulation sheet (i watched videos on YT). I don't know about the actual cost of Namda/insulation sheets.

I will also paste that sheet behind dashboard to make restrict engine heat coming inside cabin.

You’ve driven better vehicles before. That’s why it will take sometimes to get used to it. I will suggest to give yourself a couple of weeks with this new vehicle.

Btw, its your choice that you can change the door rubbers and see if it helps in sound deadening. But i am sure these are not only rubbers who blocks the outside noises. Quality & Thickness of the glass also matters which is certainly better in expensive/imported vehicles.

Secondly there is also a chance that your vehicle is missing its Vapor Barrier. It’s the Plastic sheet attached with the door (Behind door cards) with butyl tape and provides help during rain.

Once I was driving my LC on highway in winters and cold air was coming inside the cabin from some where in the leg room. It was very uncomfortable for me, but after checking with couple of mechanics it noticed that its rubber washer was missing from the heater pipes and hence allowing lot of out side air to enter inside the cabin. Since you said you can feel the engine heat inside the cabin, hence it came to mind that maybe something missing from the firewall. Or maybe firewall don’t have any insulation.

Thank you for your response. I'm gonna try changing door locks, rubbers/biddings, and paste insulation sheet after removing dashboard. If it still won't work then i will never buy used car again.

I am literally having a headache after driving it even 100 km continuously.

In Karachi i want to find where to get insulation sheet. I am not sure if insulation sheet can help in sound deadening. Some people are saying insulation sheet can only help to restrict heat and not sound.

For sound deadening they suggested maximum sound deadening sheet which is available with only one dealer.and he is not in Karachi
