There should be a proper method for commercial import of vehicles.
If this competitive medium weren't there to fulfill demand of the automobile market, what would be the proper punitive check on the local Japanese mafia from increasing prices and reducing quality as their history actively suggests? These imports and the new auto policy combined have forced all three Japanese mafia members to add new cars to their lineup, add features to existing lineup, think about adding more auto segments to their lineup, and curbed uncontrolled price increases.
Honda Atlas had PKR1.62 billion net profit in third quarter and PKR1.42 billion in net profit for fourth quarter of 2017. That is a minimum of PKR6 billion in projected net profit annually.
Toyota Indus has PKR3.74 billion net profit in fourth quarter of 2017. Combines net profits for third and fourth quarters are PKR7.36 billion. That is about PKR14.72 billion projected net profit annually.
Do you think they cannot afford new assembly lines with their billions in profits to cater to ever mounting demand for their automobiles and consequently ever increasing delivery times and increasing "OWN"? They are blackmailing the entire nation and it is high time import of new/used vehicles from abroad at lower duty structures be allowed to provide a proper competitive advantage, regardless of the other blackmailing bodies like PAPAAM, etc screaming their heads off. Their only interest is filling their pockets, not the wider consumer interest.
There is no one to fight for the consumer's interest and government functionaries tasked with actually doing this are sound asleep at the wheel through negligence or underhanded deals with this Japanese mafia.
