GPS or navigation systenm in nokia N95

mobilink indigo gives gps facility on blackberry curve 8310 .. dnt know if they give that on nokia n95 too .. u have to check that out : )

you dont need any service provider to give you gps service, gps satellites are free to all and anyone anywhere can receive its signals. just get any application which has Pakistan maps and you can plot your position

GPS is free to use, but maps generally aren't. The problem of having GPS to work in Pakistan is that there aren't no maps available.

I have heard/saw/read that Garmin now has maps for Pakistan too, but I highly doubt it will be any more than a few major cities.

Your line of research can be to find out what maps are there on your N95 (Probably Nokia's own maps) and see if they have one for Pakistan.

If not, either wait for one or try to chalk one out yourself

Would have guessed it as even Google doesn't have good data on Pakistani maps.

Was thinking on the lines earlier to get a group of students to do an FYP by making GPS maps for various cities of Pakistan

just get Garmin Mobile XT (US$ 99.99 or you know what to do), head over to http://pkmaps.freeforums.org/ and download the maps you need with address search and voice routing. If you want to pay (more?) for no good reason head to naqsha.net or http://trackingworld.com.pk/

well i use the gps in jeddah.... but i couldn't find the maps for my n82 of pakistan..... i wish i could it will be helpful for me to travel in karachi....most places i dont know....

bro u can use gps in pakistan with out any cost from any gps enable phone but only to see location not in navigation becoz there is no street map for any of the cities in pakistan yet

here is the procedure to use gps on ur n95
1. download and install nokia beta map 2 becoz it has setalite map for pakistan
2. active gprs on ur set
3. open map application , open the slide becoz gps reciver in n95 is under the key pad , go to an open place and turn the face of the set toward the sky it takes atlest 40 sec to connect with gps satelite (but in some latest set like my N78 i can connect from in side my home)
now go to setting and change the map mode to setelite
and done

there used to be some maps available for atleast islamabad (for use in n95) but unfortunately that website has disappeared into thin air
