When you test drive a vehicle and feel it has extra sway from its rear end, ask the owner for its reason. It can be caused due to:

1. Worn out sway bar and link bushings
2. Worn out shocks
3. Worn out rear radius arm (hockey) bushings

Most of the things that you are pointing out can only be spotted by a trained eye. That is why it is absolutely essential to never buy any old car unsupervised, the chances of being tricked is less if your purchase is supervised

I was going to list some other things to check for the beginners but I have second thoughts now after reading your post.

In my humble opinion if you make an attempt to acquire some prior knowledge about potential problems you may identify and hence avoid buying a heavily beaten up 4x4 vehicle. That was my sole purpose of listing such items.

Agreed... Why leave everything to the mechanic/expert? Why not use your own common sense?

You should have held the mechanic responsible. And sorry to say, what you bought, if it was approved by someone, that person surely wasn't anywhere close to an expert. Like I said, supervised but by someone who knows what they are doing, we all have read your thread and seen where you took your jeep and what sort of people you got to work on it.
So let's not go there

Doing theratical research is great but one still needs someone who has been in the practical field to accompany them and verify things. Something like an examiner.
One of the main things that many people need to understand is that many vehicle assessors are a fraud, trusting them blindly doesn't work. Similarly, not every person with a spanner isn't a mechanic, thirdly every vehicle has there pros and cons, only mechanics who regularly work on them will know how to identify them.
So yes, a purchased should be supervised by a well reputed individual

I don't argue with you guys on taking along an expert with you, but that person has to be trustworthy and shouldn't have a hidden motive. In my case I took an expert mechanic, whom I knew for many years. Not to offend anyone but he was a Hafiz-e-Quran and namazi/perhaizgar, unlike myself. His father was body shop Supervisor of a 3S dealership, and had been very cooperative with me for paint job of my two cars in the past. He took time and went everywhere with me. He didn't ask for any compensation. I had asked him to take care of all the mechanical work once I bought the vehicle.

This expert mechanic rejected a number of vehicles that we saw on one pretext or the other. He would keep quiet most of the times and wouldn't tell me much. On my repeatedly enquiring he would ask me to drop it due to the potential troubles. I remember clearly that once he rejected a Surf by saying that it needed a new engine, however the current engine of the vehicle wasn't even started. Eventually I got fed up and asked him to get me a good vehicle himself. Soon after he took me to Murree and showed me a heavily beaten up LJ79. The owner had excuses for all the breakdowns. But the asking price was too low. My expert mechanic told me that we can easily bring it to a showroom condition because it was all 'genuine'. I got tempted. Gave 100 thousand rupees as advance. Very next day they started pressing me for full payment. I stressed on checking papers. My expert started misbehaving, which was very strange for me. I ignored his rude behaviour but checked papers myself. As suspected there was a problem with issuance of duplicate number plates. After lengthy arguments I managed to get back 50 thousand rupees only. And parted my ways with my mechanic.

Then I learnt that having an expert by your side is important but you mustn't blindly trust anyone. Even your friends and cousins have certain biases towards the vehicle brands and models they own. So I thought to apply own mind and common sense also.

Hope I have cleared my point.

What has happens with me, is something which happens to hundreds of suv buyers here in PK every year.Isn’t it sir ?

It happens for the same reason that it happened to you. They all believe that buying a cheap jeep and fixing it up won't be an issue. There are tonnes of examples of people who purchased maintained jeeps and enjoyed problem free rides.
Like I said, well maintained vehicles always have a premium price, very few are willing to pay that, those that do, live a peaceful life with a reliable vehicle, those that don't, cry all the way

Blind trust in any case doesn't work, you were blindly trusting an individual whom you barely knew. Being acquainted with someone for years doesn't mean that they are trust worthy, character judgment is a different story all together, very few people understand and master that

It's a long story.

According to the owner original number plates were misplaced and he didn't ever feel the need to get duplicate ones issued from Karachi. When I enquired how those were misplaced, he told me that the courier company didn't ever deliver. Although I was not comfortable in buying a vehicle with duplicate registration plates I still asked him to get the duplicate ones issued before full payment. He tried to convince me that it wasn't a problem and he would apply for duplicate plates at the time of transfer. My mechanic was on his side instead of mine. There was also a driver cum agent from the owner side. They were all on the same page. Eventually I asked them to return my money, they told me that either I had to make full payment or advance would be confiscated. According to them it was me who was unwilling to close the deal/transaction. After lengthy argument I was able to get back 50 thousand rupees, that too as a 'favour'. I still thanked God Almighty.

I only told you because you asked, though this story is irrelevant to the discussion of this thread.

Absolutely right... We do make mistakes. That's why the cheaters and fraudsters are thriving and prospering every day in our society. Wouldn't you agree?
