Jinnah apart from a being a brilliant lawyer, and the creator of Pakistan (he is once said to have snubbed a Muslim League member (claiming to have rendered yeomans service to the movement), by saying, 'Nonsense, Pakistan was created by me, my secretary and his typewriter.' was also a symbol of diversity that we must all try to recognise and respect in our daily lives. Here was a man who had secular ideas, did not preach his version of Islamic faith (Jinnah was not Sunni), married a non-Muslim ,enjoyed his whisky, and whose own only child married a non Muslim in turn. The world would be a very grey and boring place if we were all one colour, of one political bent, or personal philosophy. The world is a beautiful place because of its colour and diversity, lets hope we can be that way too. At Partition, 32% of our population was from minority faiths, now we are left with 1% at best. Where are the rest? Denied the security and respect guaranteed by our Founder, they have, over the years, moved away from these shores to distant lands, fragmenting our once large colourful family, leaving us to ponder, how did our elders mess it up on such a colossal scale? Lets treasure what little we have left and promise to nurture diversity at all levels and in all we think and do!
