Is it really safe to have thermostat on old cars?
My car, without the tt, usually runs around C(indication on temp gauge) with AC on.

It is completely safe. If your radiator and it's fan is in good condition and water pump and it's metal pipe is not rusted internally reducing the inner diameter of the pipe..Usually in older car's people use water and that water causes the thermostat valve to stay closed and cause the car to overheat if used with coolant then thermostat valve will not trouble you and you will get a bit better fuel mileage, engine will be happy and will live longer.
that coolant would be thick. covering up that small hole.
