What is required to stay at pwd rest house or army mess in skardu astore and what are the charges if one has contacts ?

will be too hectic.better not to do. In astore you can go to Minimerg (army permission required) rama lake

I was thinking to travel to Askole from Skardu IA. Are there any good hotels in Khaplu with reasonable rates? (Other than Shigar Fort hotel).

How far can I take my car till Askole?

No cars cant go to askole.you can take your car to shigar then u can hire a jeep.yes there are reasonable hotels in shigar.i am giving u a guys number he can help u in skardu whole trip. Amjad 03468484484.he is a tour operator and owns jeeps as well.give him my ref hassan ehsan from lahore

Update on Astore: The road to Astore is in extremely bad shape right starting from KKH. I went down 3-4KM in 15-20 mins and then returned as there was another family from Lahore coming back midway and they told me that the road is in same bad condition till further.
It is not a road, it has stones which are not yet compacted and you will get back pain within first 10KM for sure.
Though I has some 4x4 going in high speed on the same road but not possible on a Sedan in my opinion.
I was on Honda City.

we are plannng a trip to hunza and khunjerab from lahore.
our plan is:
day1: lahore to abbottabad,(as we will b leaving at 3pm)
day2: abbottabad to naran
day 3:naran to hunza
day 4: hunza to khunjerab
day 5: explore hunza
day 6; hunza to naran
day 7: naran to lahore

my questions are:
is abbottabad to hunza doable in a single day???
can hunza to naltar b added on day 5??
plz suggest where to stay n hunza. i have checked the hotels name nagar1 provided. hunza mein bohat say areas hain. which area should b selected to stay with family? considering food too.
kia night p bazar jaldi band ho jatay hain?
which places should b visited in hunza.
any suggestion in hunza, specialty..??

kindly guide. we will b leaving on this Saturday. travel gurus plz help

Why spoiling your trip by staying at Abbottabad, go direct to Naran, Leave early from Lahore, even with few stops you can comfortably reach by the evening.

Naltar can be added, if you follow my above suggestion, you will have an extra day as well.

Plenty of places to stay depending what you like, most tourists stay at Karimabad, I always prefer to stay far away from Karimabad. But for a normal tourist Karimabad is good, and after reading your concerns I think its suitable for you.

Life is usually slow in those areas, they live their life as per schedule of nature, don't expect it to be open til late like liberty or mm alam rd.

I think its your first tour so better stay on the highway and stop wherever you find a brown board placed at attractions. Rakaposhi view point, Altit/Baltit fort, Eagle's nest, Attabad lake,Passu cones, Khunjerab, Hussaini bridge, Borith Lake, Nagar. Also visit couple of villages in valleys.

For real things you have to do trekking.

First of all thank you for your reply.

We cant leave early as Saturday is working and off nai mil saka. so will be travelling after 3pm.
Yes it s our first time for hunza. last year we also planned for hunza. We left at 5am from Lahore and were at naran exact at 5pm. Couldnt go beyond babusar top as the road was closed due to landsliding so to tour was left uncompleted. it was first week of august last year.
Thank you for your suggestions of places, we will definitely look for these.
Any special recommendation for food? i have heard about apricot cake. what is the location?
