Help setting up Smart TV

So its just a usual night after Iftar. I am all filled up sitting on my laptop browsing Pakwheels and educating people over social platforms regarding Pakistan's real problems :p. I have my PTCL Smart TV running in the background and life is good.

Suddenly the power goes out and as usual my DSL modem & router are shifted over to the UPS but for some reason i loose internet connectivity. I had to move my *** to the other room where the equipment is connected. I restarted everything and waited for connectivity and NADA!. I realized i have lost the Wifi capability as well. Anyways i reconnected the WIFI and logged into my DSL router's setting and to my surprise all router settings are back to factory! . Checked my WIFI, and the all settings are back to factory there as well including the WIFI network key.

I reconfigured my WIFI & then my ZTE DSL but failed to achieve DSL connectivity. Called the PTCL guys who made me wait 30 minutes and then handed me over to an absolutely dumb op i mean my wife probably has greater skills than him. He finally asked me to wait "until he connects me to the supervisor" and i was once again left with the torturous music and ads. I finally gave up and went to bed, called PTCL in the morning from work and they told me that its an exchange fault which is very very weird. How can an exchange fault wipe out settings on my WIFI router? First of all its weird and secondly it seems impossible. I got home, reconfigured by old TP-LINK modem and achieved connectivity over a different VCI/VPI of 0/135. I Reconnected my ZTE (which i got from ptcl when i bought smart tv services) reconfigured it and got the internet running. The problem for Smart TV remains as is, i tried contacting PTCL but was put on hold again n again.

The problem is, i never checked my router setting after smart tv was installed so i have absolutely no idea . I did some research online but i still have no clue how to set it up.

Expert help will be highly appreciated.

So simply put, you're looking for the router settings that will get your smart tv to work? I think ( and still am learning) that the answer is in some sort of port mapping.

When told by a fairly learned ptcl rep that the ptcl router that i have is not capable of handling both services(dsl & smartTV) at the same time, i tried setting the whole setup on my D-link 2640T. Thats when he told me to go ahead as long as i know my port mapping (for smart tv). And frankly i dont seem to understand jack about it. But yes the internet is all set up on it, for which he told me the vci/vpi values..

So if ur internet is working, u got the vci/vpi all set , try tweaking with port mapping n u mite have it solved.

While im at it myself as well, please do let me know if u get to figure it out!

I have start tv + dsl..

when ever i have problem with anything, i just go to the nearby exchange and get my modem, set box etc replaced with ones with proper settings in them...

u can do the same or complain or ptcl helpline and someone will set it all up for you..that is the easiest way...
the helpline keeps you on hold for around 15-20mins usually, at bad times, maybe upto 45mins..so that is why i tell u to go to nearest exchange and get someone from there to help u...

send your first post (copy and paste) to this email address complaint@pta.gov.pk and see how they are responding back. you will enjoy the bhaag dorr of PTCL guys who have not responded you while you were calling them, they will call you "SIR" and will give you their cell numbers too and will request you to call them when you face any problem in future. try it once.

Vci vpi settings for smart tv are now available on ptcl website. I have got it working on my tv n lAptop thru ethernet cable. Still looking for router capable of handling tv trans over wifi.

Can people share here what is the net bandwidth on which u r running smart tv. I placed an order for smart tv and after 7 working days passed, nothing happened. Then i sent few emails and today i received a couple of calls. The final call was that "sir u have 4 MB connection but in yr area smart TV requires 2 MB connection so it will have to be converted to a 2MB connection". What nonsense, i dont intent to let it go unless they give me a technical answer to satisfy me why is this required.
Does anyone has any information on this

This is opposite to what I was told. Our smart TV had the problem that picture would freeze, when I lodged complaint I was told that its because I has 2 mb connection and smart Tv requires 4mb for perfect operation. LOL

What may be wrong with port mapping, my internet works smoothly. Don't if they need to change settings for smart TV. In any case PTCL should properly let me know about this. It is their job.

HI GUYS i am also facing a strange problem with my IPTV it refuses to connect to home menu and show error stating "pppoe logiin or password error" i called the ptcl call centre they they checked the line parameters which seem to be fine they sent the ptcl technical guy paid a visit the device turned on he fiddled the configuration but od=f no use so he suggests that a replacement is required of the stb however the set top box turns on and shows display is there a way to check the real problem coz the ptcl internet techis a greedy corrupt person he often intentionally messes up things for a tip

Check your username and password. Also take out smart card, clean it and than insert it again.

Username is usually your phone number or username if you have given in sign up form else its your number. And password is usually ptcl unless you have at some point given it in form at PTCL.
