Toyota announced that the 2021 Toyota Mirai has officially set the Guinness World Record title for the longest distance by a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle without refueling.

The record of 845.3 miles (1,360 km) was achieved during a roundtrip tour of Southern California on August 23 and 24, 2021. The car consumed 5.65 kg of hydrogen.

The official record attempt was closely monitored by Guinness World Records, adhering to its strict rules and documentation procedures. On its efficiency-focused August 23 and 24, 2021 journey, the Mirai logged an impressive 152 MPGe with water as its only emission. GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator, Michael Empric, validated the Mirai’s tank with a seal at both the beginning and end of the journey."

Beginning at the Toyota Technical Center in Gardena, California on Monday, Wayne and Bob drove 473 miles in a single day – taking in Santa Barbera, Malibu beach, the PCH – after just two driver swaps.

The next day the pair covered a further 372 miles of eco-infused driving, taking in some rush hour traffic for good measure. Guinness adjudicator Michael Empric validated the 845-mile total as they coasted back into Gardena.

Toyota tells us the Mirai ate through 5.65kg of hydrogen over those two days, but there’s no word on what Wayne and Bob ate. Indeed, they passed 12 hydrogen filling stations without stopping – that’s 12 missed opportunities to get service station sandwiches and crisps. Truly, these two deserve medals of honour.

HHO and fuel cell are VERY VERY different things...

a fuel cell vehicle is PRIMARILY an ELECTRIC Vehicle. it does not have any internal combustion petrol engine

you want to know the science behind HHO?

as far as experience goes, NO, i do not know of any pakwheeler with this kit.

i have seen the HHO advert on facebook several times.

to actually have a realistic test of this kit, would require two exactly identical cars completely brand new. one with kit and one without the kit. and then have a real world mileage test.

the kits are being installed in cars with vague maintenance history. something as simple as cleaning a throttle body, or reconnecting vacuum lines can increase the mileage of your car, which will give the user a placebo effect that its the HHO kit thats doing the mileage increase.

the science behind this kit is that HHO is produced using electrical power from the cars alternator. when the engine is running. this HHO is then injected into the intake manifold along with the fuel. so the car burns HHO and Fuel together. this results somehow in lower fuel consumption as claimed by the kit.

in its stock form, the car is running and consuming X amount of fuel. it provides power to the wheels A, alternator B and AC compressor C. the alternator consumes B amount of fuel to produce the HHO in addition to running the cars auxiliaries.

considering thermal values only, always remember that A+B+C will always be less then X.
and yet some how, the energy produced by B will reduce X.... the thermodynamics / law of energy conservation dont make sense.

Long ago when people Never new about this HHO kit , I was trying to make my own kit for my motorcycle, while experimenting and reading articles on internet i was quite successful in generating Hydrogen out of water but due to lack of professional tools and equipment and a huge blast due to which hearing of my one ear is still impaired a bit i wasn't able to finish the kit.

But here's the things i learned;

You need to add a catalyst (salt, vinegar) or any thing acidic in water in order to generate enough gas to cause any difference , due to addition of catalyst the gas isn't pure Hydrogen and corrodes the inside of your combustion chamber.

1. To create hydrogen without any catalyst very high ampere current would be required which means your cars Alternator/Generator/dynamo would be under constant load while you are running the kit and would affect the life of your electriacal system and battery.

fuel cells & HHO kit are 2 different technologies. One has high potential of disaster and life threatening for human while other is comparatively harmless

you can easily generate HHO, its basic electrolysis taught in school science class.

water itself is a bad conductor of electricity, you need to have salty medium so the ions can conduct and actually flow to the anode and cathode hence producing gas. simple sodium chloride added to water will produce HHO.

the real problem is producing more HHO with less energy (against thermodynamics laws), safely storing the HHO, safely injecting the HHO into the engine

the gas produced with never be pure hydrogen, as both oxygen and hydrogen are produced.
