Honda City A/T, just got crossed 10K, getting ridiculously low fuel average - HELP!

The average is correct as per karachi traffic. My auto city 2011 gves 9, and maximum 9.5 with very light foot. so no need to worry.

U hv to remember tt in auto tranny the gear changes occur after 3k rpm, so lower fuel avg but in manuals we can change gears early so it gives a better milage.

Wrong. I've been using city for 2 years. I'm getting 14-15km/l with full time AC on.
on motorway. Speed near 100 - 120 -140. I get 17km/l with AC and 4 passengers on board. If I drive it on 80-100km/h. average increases to 20km/l.
and I'm using 205/60/r15 tyre profile. Still I'm getting good mileage Alhamdulillah.

hook a scanner with ur car, and check the oxygen sensor output, fuel injection duty width and engine load. ur oxygen sensor is direct feed back for controlling the fuel injection most of time, especially when u r driving mildly , and not hard on pedal ...

May b they r using Chinese cheap sensors and electronics in local hondas ... give it a try ... :S

So, I'm going to get the air filter changed I guess. Haven't checked it. Tried to be a hero to see for myself. Popped open the hood but couldn't find it. Yeah. I'm pretty lame. But from what I know the air filter hasn't been changed yet. I supposed it's time now. Are there any other things I should check? Oil changes have been done already.

Also, can anyone tell me what should the air pressure be for the tyres? Is it 32 for the front and 30 for the rear? I hear that also has an effect on mileage.

So then apparently, my average is normal for Karachi traffic. This sucks.

EDIT: Also, I am so jealous of Sk_KingpiN's average. Why can't I get the same fuel average? :(

By resetting the average, you mean resetting the meter every time I fill up? If so, yes, I do that every time.

I think Sk_KingpiN is talking about manual city, so it could go 14-15kmpl. But for Auto tranny, I doubt these figures.

10 is good enough mileage for any car with Ac in city. rest depends on how you drive, max speed 80 and gear should change around 2.5rpm and No idling with Ac. then maybe it will do 12 13.

the meter is not accurate, fill the tank and see how much km it does in full tank(this also goes for Bhai sahab who is getting 15)

I got my Honda City in November 2011 It's not finally crossed the 10,000km mark but my fuel average remains really low without any improvement.

The meter gauge shows the average around 8.8-9.2km/litre.

I have the original stock tyres. Nothing has been modified and it's been running as it came from the factory. I'm the only one who drives it normally. Occasionally, my brother or my driver will drive it and I'm pretty sure they drive it really fast. Nonetheless, I have sent it to Honda for servicing on two occasions with my driver. However, upon a friend's recommendation, I sent it to this other place for the last servicing on Sh. Faisal and my driver said that place was much more efficient and thorough as opposed to the Honda people. So I don't know. I am too busy and do not get time to go for these things myself.

As I'm working on I.I. Chundrigar Road, I have to drive in heavy traffic, which I suppose has an effect on the fuel average. But apart from that I'm careful. I'm a calm driver and don't drive too fast.

Since I started driving the car, the meter gauge would show the average as 11.5 the first few weeks and since then the average has been going down.

So please please someone tell me what to do about the high fuel consumption!!! I have no idea what to do and filling up on petrol is costing me an arm and a leg.

I have Toyota Altis 1.8 its fuel average is 10.5km/l. I thought I was getting low mileage but after reading your post I am bit relaxed that my average is much better than a 1.3 car.

Just a suggestion; Make sure you get good quality fuel (petrol). Usually, I have noticed that PSO & Shell have the poor quality fuels while Total is better option. Also, change Engine Oil & Oil Filter and Air Filters on schedule. Read owners manual for instructions.

The reason I prefer Total fuel is that I had Honda Civic back in 2007. That car was doing low with the initial pick. Honda dealer recommended to change the fuel source. So, I switch to Total, after that my Civic gained good pick.

Hi All

I have been a City User for Almost 6 Years. My Brother Drove the City 2006 Re-Mod Version and Drove it some 113,000 KM till 2011. His even had a it running on CNG with CVT and apart from the known issue of the Driver Side Auto Window Switch nothing went Wrong. Its mileage on CNG was good but on Petrol it easily topped 16. Our Daily Commute was 35 KM between DHA Pindi to Islamabad and its petrol average was infact 16. But it drastically dropped whenever the air filter was choked or dirty.

I also did I think a six month study of my 2010 Model City with Auto Transmission. I have driven that so far some 46K and I have an average of around 10.4 in City, If I travel on Highway at 120 KM my mileage is on Motorway(round trip going n coming back to lahore) at 14.8+/-0.2 and On 130-140 its around 13.5 but not above. However on GT Road between Lahore and Pindi its always gives me an Average of around 17.5KM/l and if really push it with AC On and driving without throttling (some drivers tend to push and release gas pedals; a way of driving) and driving never over 110KM/H.

I will try to find my Mileage Report and Publish it with dates and all

I used a Software Called Android. So for 18000 KM my Average was 11.04 Including Travels to Murree, Abbottabad, and Plains of Punjab.

yes thats true,its a trick to get better fuel milage,i have manual city 09 model with alloys wheels.It is giving me 12 - 13km within city with a/c on and on highways i even managed to get 26.4km per litre but speed at that time was 70km.I was alone in the car and just wanting to check maximum fuel average.

At 100KM speed i easily get 18km per litre on highways........

Well I have taken fuel from Total, Shell, Caltex, PSO...

The only change I see is when I clean my Air Filter regularly.. I somehow believe that the older version of Honda Air Filters were better on my Car Mileage... Ever Since Honda has started using their current Sticky Coated Filters my car mileage has stagnated at 11 KMPL. and there is no use cleaning those... the older ones could easily be cleaned using a blower...

My Final Take is Filter Cleaning is pivotal. Fuel Generally are the same .... Though I have not tried so far the E10 Ethanol Fuel. Motorway PSO sell the most pathetic fuel and gives a bad mileage... Shell Panj Sarki in Pindi is the best pump of shell 99% of the time... my safest choice has been techron although I think the mileage neither improves nor goes worse..
