Revs alone don't matter. Sometimes you can be at just 2.5k RPM and the car will still give 10km/L if you're using too high a gear for the speed you're going.

When calculating the mileage, also keep the quantity of the petrol you get from a particular petrol pumps, most will give you 0.7 for 1 litre or even lesser. If you keep an eye on the fuel gauge after you fill from different petrol pumps you will know the real story.

If you do not switch off your engine while waiting at a signal (more than 60 secs), you will never get good mileage. Also waiting in the car with AC on in the parking lot while the family is shopping destroys the good mileage dream.

If you are in habit of running into a red light and then on green light launching the car as if a race is starting, you will never get mileage.

If you are in the habit of overtaking every car in front of you, you will never get good mileage.

Most people would never care about such things and then say gaddi tel buhat khaati ha.

Hyper-miling is an art in itself

A questions, Is it dangerous/not wise to keep car in neutral at 60-70kmp/h if a red light approaches, basically hyper-miling

pressing the clutch,lifting the foot off the accelerator and keeping it ready to apply the brakes (if necessary), removes the need of moving the car in neutral gear,let yr car remain in a respectable gear as per the speed andd watch the speedometer show 40km/L mileage..(keep yr eyes on the road,but in the above mentioned scenario the meter does show reading of 40km/L {debate-able})

I think this method will decrease the life of clutch plates for your vehicle. My city gives me 14-16 KM/L with A/C and within city. What I do to observe the speed limit w.r.t condition of the road. Let's say if I have to drive at 60 KM then quickly reach to the limit of 60 and then maintain this speed limit. Whenever need to slowing down the speed simply lift the accelerator but leave the vehicle in gear.

when the car is off, RPM at 0
when the car is start at idle, RPM should be around 700-800 RPM

oil and filter...use genuine Honda oil and filter if car is under warranty. if not, use Liqui Moly oil and Lepon oil filter. genuine oil filter can also be used with Liqui Moly Oil.

Does AC thermostat effect on engine or its just fan speed i.e same effect on thermostat at 1 or 4 as one of my friend told me that if AC is on, it does not matter you set fan speed at 1 or 4.

+1000......its the matter of applying the right gear at the right time

Yes shifting each gear in the prescribed speed range is required. As mentioned earlier if you change the gear too early i.e high gear at slow speed then the car would consume more fuel due to engine knocking. I experienced it on my way to Sargodha. Honda people asked me to follow the car manual. I think it says:

1st to 2nd gear at around 21 Km/hr
2nd to 3rd gear at around 42 Km/hr
3rd to 4th gear at around 62 Km/hr
and 4th to 5th gear at about 85 Km/hr. (You can consult your Honda City manual for exact figures)

Now these are the speed ranges to change a gear but the thing which I want to know is the upper and lower speed ranges for each gear. I think they are not mentioned in Honda City manual. I am more interested in lower range. Like you said that you traveled at the speed of 60 Km/hr in 5th gear. Is it safe and economical for the car?

Well my recent experience. With extreme care and rpm range max 3k. I got 13.2km/l with AC in city drive.

The recommended shift points in the owner's manual are not for optimum fuel consumption. They are meant to provide a balance between
fuel economy and acceleration, so naturally neither is achieved.

The optimum shift points for fuel economy are something like this: 2nd gear after 2 car lengths, the rest of the gears at 2000 rpm. For the Honda City, 5th can be used as low as 50 km/h, but the car will be unable to accelerate. You can shift to 5th if you don't want to exceed 50 km/h, such as in heavy traffic.

For ~2L 4-cylinder cars, you can shift as low as 1600 rpm in some gears.

Well I drive a manual 1.8 civic (reborn) as a daily runner and its giving me around 10-10.5 kms/liter I think thats great as compared to a city and I change gears at around 3000 rpm

Mileage in the city driving varies from person to person and situation to situation.So, you can't quote a standard fuel consumption within the city. you can only quote the fuel consumption on highways where the situations are nearly the same on most of the time.

With AC and a medium-heavy foot I was getting around 11. But car was new, 2014 model. These days getting 13+ without ac same type of driving. Highway with AC I got 17, haven't tried without ac

My honda city 2010 m/t gives me 12 to 13km/l all city drive mostly short trips ! But it can easily achieve 14 to 15km/L mark

A famous member on cleanmpg drives a USDM Honda Fit, which is mechanically the same as Honda City. He has a lifetime average of 26 km/l.

It has a lot of fuel economy potential.
