Honda City Prosmatec 1.5 Sound From Gear Box

I have Honda City Prosmatec 1.5 33k driven only. Car is in immaculate condition. Problem is that when I drive the car and press accelerator in between 30 to 60 km of speed, sound of kat kat kat kat comes out of the engine bay. It goes off as soon as I remove my foot from accelerator.

Sound doesn't come when I accelerate in P or N gear. It only come in driving gear and when accelerator is pressed.

I got the car checked from Honda Shahrae faisal Karachi, Auto Gear Workshop and Faisal Autos ( gear shop), all said sound is coming from gear box and it needs to be replaced.

Honda quoted me Rs.6 lac for gearbox replacement. Auto Gear and Faisal Autos said to replace the same with Kabli one which will cost me around 60 to 70k for whole job.

I got transmission oils changed with original Honda ATF from Honda showroom, but sound is still there.

I got my axle checked, same is fine with no issues. I use mostly high octane.

Can u people help me out what to do?

seems like some harsh experience with drivetrain...

did car flooded in water?? or autobox?? or driven harshly??

Car is as good as new. I bought it from a showroom. After driving around 3 to 4k km, sound appeared. If it would have been in water or rashly driven, sound and other issues should have been there since the time I bought it.
I drive it with utmost care.

What is autobox?

showroom as in brand new from honda or so called slightly used from showroom???

its its showroom slightly used then they usually reverse odometer readings and fix the issues temporary which was there and sold it as mint....

autobox=automatic gearbox = prosmatec transmission in honda....

Used from showroom located at Khalid bin Waleed. 27k driven. How can gearbox knocking issue be fixed temporary. When I got it checked from Honda showroom and two other mechanics, all said replacement.

Now what to do?

Feel Sorry for what you faced.. a possible case of some damaged transmission by 1st owner temporality fixed and sold to you as mint....

the reason why they all are convinced that its damaged is surely something to worry about....

get a 3rd opinion...pls visit "times motor" at alamgir road chowrangi near united king bakers.

real damage or issue will be known only after transmission is opened physically but they can give you idea what it could be

hope to had better news for you but seems like you are being scammed by crooks .

Never ever go to Honda Shahra-e-Faisal , they are looters (as per my experience) they quoted an expense of around 1.5 lac for Auto gear overhauling of City 2005 model, although the fault was diagnosed later in Throttle body by another Honda 3S dealer (Honda Drive Inn). The problem was resolved in less then Amounting to Rs 10K.

If you still want opinion from Honda 3S delaer then visit Honda Drive Inn & meet with Mr. Ghani (Technical advisor).

Visited time motors today. One of their Ustaad (as informed to me. He was in between 50 to 60 years old and had a beard) took a test drive of my car. His verdict - keep driving the car and let the sound get worst for any action. He said sound is very minor and can be heard if you focus. He didn't clearly associated the sound with gearbox.

Initially he was unable to hear the sound but I make him to accelerate in between 1.5 to 2k RPM at 40 to 60 speed, he heard a minor sound of kat kat kat. He said, your gears are working perfectly as there is no issue with shifting etc. and acceleration is also has no issues, so no need to pay attention to this issue unless it get worse.

I told him I got the car checked from Honda showroom and they said sound is from gearbox which needs to be replaced. He said "unhon ny bhi jan hi churai hai"

i would seriously suggest to have a chillax moment...give yourself sometime and drive and observe calmly ..it could be related to suspension or drivetrain(axle) or something related to that..

if sound is not so worse. he's advising correct at the moment to not jump to extreme by directly replacing a gearbox..(i know douche's always advice based on their fake observations to change the part w.o assuring or diagnosing ) this is why i advice to get multiple opinions always

just stay alert for sound...if drivability is good let it be for now...

btw how you get your car axles checked? or suspension?

Axle, wheel bearing etc. were checked and had no issues. Honda showroom and other gear box mechanics lifted my car on jack and put it in drive mode and accelerated to listen to the sound. This is how they examine that sound is coming from gearbox.

But I still doubt. I have also changed gear oil last week with Honda ATF but didn't work for sound as sound is still there.

Sound is a bit mysterious as it only comes at 1.5 to 2k rpm when accelerator is pressed. It doesn't come when you drive slow or at high RPM. It only comes when accelerator is pressed and goes away as soon as you release accelerator.

One of the mechanic from Lahore (Zeeshan autos) told me over the call, if sound is from gearbox then it should come all the time when accelerator is pressed.

Let the sound be prominent, then will take action accordingly

it could just be any part abit loose rattling at low rpms due to vibration gaining momentum.....you never know

and yes gearbox sounds are consistent and will def makes your drive bad or scary sounding .this is something odd

I had a similar continuous kat kat kat sound from my Mira, but that only happened when I was accelerating the car. The reason for it was that one of the wheel's lug nuts were dangerously loose, yikes! Tightening them up fixed that kat kat sound. Btw, if your car shifts fine and doesn't slip I think you should focus on things other than the transmission. Go to a mechanic and have every nut and bolt checked, if you're lucky you might just have a remedy that was similar to mine.

I got my car checked from multiple locations and all lifted my car up through jack and accelerated in D gear. Then beneath the car, they try to locate the sound which was coming from gearbox side. This is how everyone said sound is from gearbox. But I still doubt it. Let the sound be worsen, then real issue will pop up.
