Corolla is a good all rounder. Big wheels makes it better at navigating through bumps. You get a big boot and cabin space for luggage and family. Engine is underpowered but good for everyday use (0-100 in 3.9 sec is not your goal). The car will make it in the mountains as well. It produces about 88hp which is similar to 1.5 litre engines of the early 2000s.
Since you don't buy a car every other year I would recommend you go for the Corolla as it gives you more space which makes your journeys more comfortable. It is also more practical as it's raised suspension is better able to adapt to bumpy and rocky roads.
You may also test drive both cars to compare their drives. My suggestion would be to make a list of some common features you want in a car such as cabin space, boot space, AC cooling, mileage, maintenance cost, resale, styling, accessories, etc. and then give a score to each car against every category. The car with the highest score might keep you happier.
