XLi 03-08 cannot exceed 170 km/h.
Have tried it many times!
But honestly speaking it was a roughly used car, maybe a clean maintained one would touch 180km/h but NO MORE than that.

well...if my platz with tiny 1000 cc can hit 150 (which i even tried yesterday), i guess steermatic shud surely hit 185-190

At level roads we have touched 165 on Manual transmission Vitz & at downhill it should max out @ 180

auto vitz has only 4 speeds & manual has 5 speeds

@Shiraz, that 210 in the steermatic was done by me. I didn't wanted to posted pics of "full-speed" meters as people say that it's risky and every thing. Mind you that the car was able to touch 210 on a downhill. The max it can do on a levelled road and no tail/head wind is 190. Please visit steermatic fan club to see more pics.

As for the top speed of vitz, I was able to hit 167 in the platz (1.0L petrol) on a levelled road and the vehicle was drag-limited at that speed.

i have also touched 170 on my 06 vitz just recently, no vibration whatsoever.....@TypeR has also done this and posted pics here!

about the XLi, as far as i remember it wasn't vibrating at 140.

steermatic is indeed a really nice car(Y)(Y), but i feel bad that it lacks ABS....:S

150 is nothing for Steermatic. I try to drive at 120 or below on motorway, really have to keep my foot pulled back to keep it at that speed. If I get a litlle relaxed it touches 150 just like that. And please remember D mode always gives higher top speed. S mode gives high acceleration but lower top speed.

I own both the cars steermatic and vario. In steermatic i drove at 195KM/H and Vario i drove at 160 KM/H. In my opinion both have gone further, but road and high way police all stuff. Some one asked for XLI top speed, i cant risk rolla driving abobe 75KM/H. Its personal opinion sorry if some one gets hurt. Cheers!
