Honda Civic 8th gen vs 9th gen: A small Comparison

I respect your point of view. However, I don't remember there was a general consensus on the statement 'Old look was better' when 7th gen was upgraded with 8th gen!! It was a surprisingly pleasant change of shape. Everyone was praising new looks of 8th gen.
The picture you have posted does not show the front look in comparison with the old shape.
I understand liking is a personal facet, and no two people may have a similar liking. So no offense bro! Let us like both!!

A useful review. I would request owners of 9th gen to kindly endorse their comments too.
As for the looks, I humbly disagree. The pride of driving 8th gen remained in looks mostly. The 'nakhra' of the Civic's eyes and the graceful rear looks never went unnoticeable on the road. With all due respect, I would say that 9th gen has a common look, an ordinary front and a bit unbalanced back.
Nevertheless, reading this review has almost convinced me to think of upgrading. Waiting for a few more comments before making a decision... Thanks!

I fully agree to what you've said sir, without any doubt, the 8th gen has a LOT better looks.

As far as not going un noticed is concerned, bhai g its Pakistan. Where every 3rd person has to live the life of starvation. Owning a brand new "TAAIRA MAADAL" civic is a pretty big whup here anyways. You won't go unnoticed in an APF civic, naam he kaafi hai.

But regarding personal preferences, I have already said we have to live with it. We don't have any other option, its either the civic, altis @2 mil or the bmw 3 series @50 mil. Nothing in between.

Had we got Chevrolet Cruze here, some Ford cars, Subaru etc; we had reasons to leave the civic idea based upon looks.

As many might not know it but for 9th Gen Civic, Prosmatec versions are more fuel efficient than the manual transmission.

I was reading a review on a Malaysian site which termed 9th Gen Civic as the most hideous of all Civics. Although it mentioned that handling has improved over the 8th version

8th generation has a horrible turning radius which stands corrected in the 9th generation, besides other material improvements. In short the 9th generation is better in terms of practicality despite omission of minor things as highlighted by the author of this thread. Also rear passenger map lights are no more in the 9th generation.

Thanks a lot for the kind words Kaptaan sb. Indeed the looks might be not as good as people expect from a Civic but the features and the overall performance does compensate for it in the long run.
Like I said, we don't have any other choice, the hottest comparison on our forums is always civic vs altis. There isn't any Sonata vs Accord, Camry vs Malibu or Altis vs Cruze here so the civic has the edge currently.

Thanks a lot ehsan bhai! And nope, the rear reading lights/map lights that 8th gen had in the pillars aren't there in the 9th gen. Only the central roof light is there and the driver's map lights.

Actually there wasn't any review regarding the points of the 9th gen which can't be explained pictorially, not unless one has driven it, for a few days at least. These things reveal themselves when you get to know the vehicle better, so I thought t would help the people who're still undecided about sticking to 8th gen or upgrading to 9th.

Yes looks are a disappointment, but what you get in this price tag is doubtlessly the best local production sedan nowadays. Currently, it can't be compared to any other vehicle in its class. Thats why, its a green for the ones who want to upgrade. Its gonna be a hot cake unless toyota jumps in with a bang. It ain't gonna happen before 2015.

As for the ECON feature, well its been discussed in the main civic 2013 thread, compiling all that up including my own views for you here.

According to what atlas honda claims about this feature, its supposed to give you better fuel economy in city and on highway. What happens is that when you turn this feature on, you notice a significant drop in the throttle response, the feature decreases the effect of the DBW system all together. I felt the car trying to shift in higher gears somewhat more quickly with ECON. The performance of the AC is a bit decreased as well, though I wasn't able to notice and check it out properly due to the weather nowadays. Its supposed to be a bit more obvious in summer days.

What I reckon is, despite all the fuel saving strategies by the manufacturer of the vehicle, it still depends upon your driving style. It depends a lot on it. I mean, even if you're driving a prius, if you floor it continuously, it will draw fuel and rev its engine harder, resulting in bad fuel economy (not what its expected to do, lol).

Same is the case with the civic, if you have, what they call a heavy foot, the econ will be of help in saving fuel. But if you're a calm and peaceful driver (like me (A)) the econ will hardly make any difference in the overall fuel average of the car. Probably by 0.5kpl or even nothing at all.
Because with a light foot, you're already doing what the ECON is supposed to be doing. For the people having rash driving habits, it will retard the throttle effect resulting in a slightly better economy.

It hasn't got anything to do with speed limit or gear limit or anything, because of course, a person using econ won't be driving above speed limits, thats for sure. Above those speeds, the fuel average IS screwed no matter what you do.

As for the oh to hundred, well honestly I didn't check it for a fact. Because for me, a car's performance depends upon how it behaves ABOVE 100, and trust me, the 9th gen Prosmatec is very good at it, and I am sure the timing will be slightly better than the previous generation.
