HOV "High occupancy Vehicle" Lanes

One major difference is HOV are free lanes.. While HOT sometimes are called when the same HOV is used by motorist but they pay toll as well in some states. In NY all HOV which are free not HOT.

But then there are certain areas where these designated lanes are called HOT and you pay toll to enter .. A single driver can also enjoy but the toll is variable and changes with congestion on highway.. If you enter with multiple passenger on HOT lane you get discount though.

In California there is one such highway I think near LA.. Need to confirm.. BTW you can read USA TODAY

oh I get it now, I guess these HOT or HOV lanes are available in heavily congested areas like New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington D.C, must be a huge burden on Dept of Transportation to build new lanes from scratch!! Do u think its justified? The article u mentioned points out that these lanes are called Lexus Lanes, only the wealthy can pay for it, while the rest stays stuck in traffic!

Well there are people who have something to talk against. Like there was a petition with 35K people to white house to attack Mars.

Every system have some drawbacks.

HOV lanes here in NYC, NJ, PA are blessings. HOT lanes.. If one don't want to pay don't get inside.. Its one own decision. But if you pay you move fast as there are limited cars there.

All those who say these are lexus lanes then will also say why Buggati is making veryon s or Lamborghini making aventador if there are only limited people buying it.. If one goes in business class its the reason he can afford..

As far as the HOV or HOT are concerned these are very beneficial to people and they pay to reach fast.

The article I sent was just an idea for you to understand what is HOT.. There are numerous studies which have shown benefits of both systems..

As far as stuck in traffic.. The answer is use car pool.. Or public transportation. I have been car pooling 4 people for 3 years near my old office. We saved on gas, tolls and used HOV.. Its really helpful..

Yes I agree in certain area the HOV also remain stuck or not providing benefits but again the backlash is more on paying for HOV.. Not HOV itself.. People are happy with HOV here all those who car pool but the dat these become paid HOV.. We all will say.. These are useless.. Lol..

When I was studying traffic engineering.. We also learnt.. Congestion can never be reduced. You can just ease it up. There will still remain bottle necks.. Right in front of home there is a highway. Always stuck day or night. They added a new lane. 3 on both sides still stuck.. They changed and added new lane.. Still stuck .. Recently they added another lane.. 5 on each side. Same story.. All this in last 5 years.. Still some construction going on..

Yes.. But once you drive in LA, Atlanta, DC or NYC .. These are blessings... People are short of time and they spend most of time commuting.. Like It takes me 2-2.5 hours daily to return from work and the distance is 21Km. Sometimes about 3 hours if any accident or rain.In morning fix 90 minutes everyday..

90mins/ 2-2.5 hrs for 21kms?? its too much sir...
why dont you use public transport then rather burning fuel from your own pocket...?

And u might feel comfortable with these rules as u r following them 4 quite long but one day when @chaudhary9 told us about new speed cameras that day when coming back from uni i was feeling it quite hard to drive as all the time i was searching for speed limit sign boards, speed cameras and speedometer and i got distracted due to these many times.

though i know where they sit near centuarus but still i kept speed at 80 (they allow deviation of 10,they told me themself) today even when it was slightly raining when they would never set up cam

i mostly encounter them in front of islamabad club and when ever i see them in front of centarus i hide myself behind cars

sir NYC has the best commuter system.. you can go anywhere without a car. I work in NJ.. connecting from NYC system to NJ system takes almost same time. Yes I will save on gas and $13 per day toll into NYC. I can sacrifice the $ for time. In bus then subway and little walk will take me almost 2.5 hours as well.. soemtimes I leave early from work or I have to go to our lab or manufacturing facility.. so car is sometime needed specially in winters and chilly winds.. (H)
