my cousine is interested buy one. He's sick of cable:( Ptcl smart tv is good but daily break downs (because of road repairing, and wire's damage) make it worst.

Don't know about tatasky, but dishtv is legal in Pakistan.

Guys I used tata sky for about 6 months. My advice is don't by Tata sky tho the quality is super fine but the subscription is a bit high. RS 2700 for 3 months. New tat sky with 3 months in it will cost RS 6600 just the box. New Dish tv which I bought now will cost RS4400 the box and the 3 months subscription whole package is RS 1500 not bad han. But the best of them all with MPEG 4 quality Airtel digital tv my bruv bought 10 days back costed him RS5500 with 6 months in it and also Indian RS 500 loaded for premium movies channel. Subscription for 3 months is RS 1600.

One more thing is called dream box where you can share the channels and that is via broadband. Just search it and if you have broadband unlimited thats the best thing.

Out of TATA SKY , DISH TV, AIRTEL DIGITAL TV.

Quality wise AIRTEL AND TATA SKY are super as they offer MPEG 4 DVD quality. MONEYWISE AIRTEL and DISH TV.

My choice AIRTEL DIGITAL TV which I am gona by soon.

I Got BIGTV DTH Which is Good in Picture Quality.I use Model-2 Set Top Box (STB) which got SPDIF Audio Out.

Indian DTH providers focusses only on India where even South Indian regional packages are on Very High demand.Cannot Expect Non-Indian Channels as of Now.The Smuggled Set Top Boxes available in Pakistan and many other Countries May risk sudden cut if they found out that it is used illegally(TRAI).But ,I believe DTH providers knew that these DTH are used in Pakistan and Many Erstwhile Russian Union Countries to Malayasia,Indonesia.

Regarding Picture Quality ,BIGTV DTH,Airtel digitaltv,Tata Sky,SUN DIRECT scores.Videocon d2h is just launched in India and it seems the most value for money packages it got.There is another dth provider called "dialog dth" they operates from Srilanka.

Dish Tv is leggal in Pakistan:) check their web, they've listed one shop in Lahore.

I would recommend Tatasky. I've got Tatasky, and have been using it since May 2007. Am extremely happy with it, since I live in a place where there is no cable, nor PTV signal.

As compared to Dishtv, Tatasky allocates a higher bitrate per transponder. That means that more bandwidth per channel is used to transmit the signal. The con is that it cannot carry as many channels as Dishtv. But the good part it that we don't need to watch the south channels. It has all the good English and Indian Channels available legally (except for TCM)

I had gotten it thru a guy on Hall road, who was fleecing me with Rs. 2000 for 3 months for the basic channel, and has asked for Rs. 4500 per 3 months for all channel package (with all sports and movie channels).

I managed to make an account on their selfcare portal, and have been using that to make payments via Credit Card. And guess what? They only charge me Rs. 1600 for 4 months for the all channel package. This arrangement has been working fine for the past year.

The selfcare portal allows me to buy special screenings of new movies for 2 hours (I watched Slumdog Millionaire on DVD quality BEFORE it was made available here on DVD, for Rs. 70 for mutiple screenings over a 24 hour period). It also allows me to add and delete channels as per my liking.

The only drawback is that it is registered in the name of someone else, since TRAI (Telecom Regulation Authority of India) does not allow DTH to be sold outside of India. Hence, I cannot participate in their quizzes, etc., which are mostly over SMS.

Another Drawback is that it doesn't support HDTV, and the max resolution that is supported is 480i. (Interlaced DVD Quality).

check the channels list of both the dth,s (airtel & videocon)
and purchase whose channels list u like
videocon has got more channels than airtel
but airtel has got little bit good quality over videocon
