How to change coolant from radiator

toyota coolant costs rs 900/- per litre .. i know u approve caltex .. i had already purchased one bottle .. then i read somewhere @basitali87 that toyota coolant comes premixed 50/50 ... my guess there must some 4-5 gallons at least in the cooling system .. if so the cost effect will be a lot .. please tel the most cost effective way .. am i doing calculations correctly

5 gallons?

corolla has about 6 or 6.5 litres - to make 6 litres coolant you need 3 litres concentrate. Vitz has something like a 4.5 litre capacity.

5 gallons is 20 litres - usually seen in HD trucks.

Sir I think, it will be at most 5-7 liters in Vitz / Corolla. 4-5 gallons seem on quite a higher side.

Regarding Toyota Coolant, I think there is some confusion. As per details available on http://www.toyota-indus.com/after-sales/parts/chemicals/ regarding Coolant, there are 02 types of coolants (one is 50/50 premixed, the other is 100% concentrated and needs to be mixed with an equal amount of 100% pure water, to make it 50/50).

Let me quote complete and exact details to make it more elaborative and clear:

toyota coolant isnt all that special, I prefer the caltex over it as its proven to be serviceable longer and has the best resistance to electrolysis and cheaper too.

In USA I buy PEAK branded coolant (their global product) - In all cars that I used it in, it has performed flawlessly.

While changing the coolant in my 2013 cultus.. Mechanic instead of blowing out previous coolant from engine, started the engine and reved up so that all coolant is pushed by water pump... He did it for upto 3 mins i guess at 5 k rpm... Despite my insistance to turn off the engine he did so..?? And told me that engine doesnt blow off without coolant in such a short span.. What do u people say?? @Xulfiqar

running the engine dry cannot get coolant out of engine as the water pump is not a positive pump but an impeller pump - meaning it needs a full volume on intake side to work. (e.g. your home water pump for overhead tank is also impeller pump and doesnt work if the footvalve is faulty)

a regular hose pipe from your garden water tap is used to flush out the remainder of dirty liquid from the engine block.

@Xulfiqar bhai i am doing a complete cooling system flush in my Mehran 2015 which is using tap water. i purchased botny rediator cleaner flush 2 bottles as i want to clean it 2 times to clean thoroughly and then i will be putting Caltex 50,50 coolant in it. i want to ask how can i perform engine flush with tap water pipe without removing T.valve???

Are you sure?

You are doing engine flush with tap water?

You are talking about engine flush or radiator flush?

Please check and confirm. Both are totally different things.

if you will not be removing the valve (which takes 2 minutes literally on a mehran) - you will have to backflush from one of the heater pipes and empty the system from the radiator drain at the same time.

Flush with that tap water for about 10 minutes after the acid has worked

Once all acid is removed, use a blower or air compressor to remove any stagnant water, install the T stat valve back (buy new one if old is stuck open) then fill 100% concentrate to half the capacity of the total system and top off the rest with distilled/RO water. Fill the overflow tank with 50% mix to hot mark

1- can i open the T valve in euro 2 mehran without removing any other thing such as pipe / butterfly etc?

2- I couldn't found any drain nut in my Mehran rediator and please guide how to open the rediator lower hose as if there is no drain nut in my rediator?

your help is aggressively awaited as i go to many rediator walas in my city multan they all were looters they were saying me that we will open up your rediator we'll then cut its tanks and we'll clean it and then we'll re weld that tanks.. while all mechanics were saying that your rediator only needs Washing dont believe on these looters desi rediator walas and do it yourself in home... please help me on above 2 points as i myself have never opened a single nut in my car. ..

if you have never done anything on a car and are trying to DIY a radiator flush - I wont suggest it as it can burn you and you can cause engine damage if you dont install the pipe clamps back as required.

Sir @Xulfiqar bhai no one available in Multan to flush off the rediator without removing it. all are saying mr remove and get cut off your rediator only they are trying to make money.. i am positive that i can do rediator flush only guide me on two steps:

1- How can i easily remove T valve without removing any other thing? if any other thing has to be removed then I'll get t.valve removed from mechanic..

2- No drain slot is showing in my rediator bottom.. and hard to reach on lower hose to open it can you please guide how can i remove lower hose?

you will need basic tools

jack to get car up
stands to support the car

get under the car and remove the lower pipe or try to reach in from top - its quite easy, remove hose and let it drain into tub (do no let coolant drain into ground, its toxic)

I dont know what this flush is made of - I personally use citric acid (taatri) from grocery store and have excellent results every time. Have you gone through the procedure? the flushing requires you to run the engine for 20 minutes with acid in it and then stop engine and wait for it to completely cool down before you drain or flush anything because if you add cold water to a hot engine - it may crack the cylinder head.

ok i understood it..
i have to put this liquid in to the rediator, run the engine and then let cool down the engine and then drain ... repeat the same with Normal clean water 2,3 times to remove all the acidity from the system... Thanks alot sir thanks..

Is it also easy to remove t.valve? by opening its 2 nuts only at the end of upper hose? or I have to remove any other things to get on to t.valve?
